Lois (nee O'Brien) Hobbs Obituary

On September 7, 2016, Lois Hobbs of Edmonton passed away after a brief illness at the age of 71 years. Lois is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Brian; daughter, Karen; son, Richard; grandchildren, Emilie and William Green and Bryen and Shanna Hobbs; brothers, Bruce (Erna) and Dennis (Debbie); and sister, Penny (Mark) Calliou. Lois was also cherished by her in-laws, Beryl Baldeo, Wendy (Dennis) Barton, Lynn Hodgins, Sandra McCracken, Brenda and Randy (Karen); as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins on both sides of the family. Predeceased by her parents, John (Jack) and Rachel O’Brien, baby brother, John; her in-laws, Dick and Phyllis Hobbs; and her brothers-in-law, Albert, Jim, Peter and Darren. Lois was an energetic, enthusiastic and dedicated supporter of many causes and organizations during her lifetime. Her first priority was always family, especially when her grandchildren came along, but she also took time earlier to be President of the Parkallen Community League and Balmoral Ladies Curling Club, Manager of the Alberta Avenue Community Centre, and Volunteer Coordinator for the Red Cross Blood Donor Unit and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. She was an avid curler and enjoyed golf (usually). She was also involved in slo-pitch, from the early days of mixed slo-pitch (when she was occasionally coerced into playing), to involvement as score-keeper and often social organizer of her husband’s teams. She was a great cook and especially loved organizing and hosting gatherings of all sizes. Her brother-in-law, Peter, often referred to the Hobbs’ annual Christmas party as the “social event of the season”. Member of many clubs, organizations, and groups, both official and “unofficial”, such as the Lois Club , EEK, NGWMH, with good friends in all of them. She will be missed by many. Thank you to the staff of 7 West at the Misericordia Community Hospital and Dr. Fraser Armstrong for their exceptional care and support during Lois’ illness. Memorial Service Monday, September 12 at 11:00 a.m. at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709 – 111 Avenue. Cremation has taken place.
