It is with saddened hearts that we say goodbye to Maria Metz of Edmonton who passed away peacefully on July 28, 2017. Maria is survived by her adoring husband, Harry Metz; one loving son, Donald Metz (Belinda Stelmack) of Edmonton; and beloved daughter, Belinda Marie Metz of Vancouver, BC; five grandchildren, Kayla, Hayley, Amelia, Izabella and Jagger. Maria was born in Vienna, Austria. Her 90 years on earth were filled with her love and friendship for her husband Harry of 65 years, family, great friends, love for gardening, her beautiful roses, her love of dancing and music, cooking, sewing, traveling, her Austrian heritage, her memorable stories, and her many photo collections. Those who knew her will always remember her beautiful smile and engaging spirit. We love you so much and will miss you so dearly Omi, and whenever we see a beautiful garden, we will think of you. God looked around his garden and found an empty space. Then he looked down upon this earth and saw your tired face. He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest. God’s garden must be beautiful, he only takes the best. The family would like to acknowledge the exceptional and loving care from her family physician, Dr. Christine Sharek who helped her live 90 years vicariously and effortlessly. Maria’s one wish to always remain living in her home was granted thanks to her wonderful home care nurse and friend, Opal Barnett and her family along with many of her compassionate neighbours and friends who always watched out for her. Thank you all so very much for your prayers, thoughts and compassion. Funeral Mass Friday, August 4 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Edmund Roman Catholic Church, 13120 - 116 Street. Reverend Patrick Baska and Reverend Michael McCaffery co-celebrants. Cremation to follow.
