Olga "Ollie" Koshka (nee Caruk) Obituary

On Sunday, December 3, 2017; with family at her bedside, our beloved Ollie peacefully passed away at the Sherwood Care Centre. She was 87 years old. Ollie was born and raised in Mundare, the daughter of the late Michael and Eva Caruk. An extremely caring and compassionate person, Ollie found her calling as a nurse. She worked most of her career as a head nurse at the Misericordia Community Hospital in Edmonton. After her marriage to Joe Koshka in 1962, they resided in Edmonton for many years and later took over the Koshka family farm near Chipman, where they stayed until Joe's death in 1995. Ollie was an active member of St. Basil's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Edmonton, participating in CWL and the many workshops at the church. Her interests included long walks, sewing, pettipoint and shopping. Besides her husband Joe, Ollie was predeceased by her sisters, Adeline Krysko and Sonia Hrabec; and by her brother, Tony Caruk. As well, Ollie was predeceased by her sisters-in-law; Geraldine Koshka, Genevieve Sartre and Joanne Caruk; and by her brothers-in-law, Larry Koshka and Bill Hrabec. Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Jean Koshka ; her brother, Roman Caruk (Maria); her brothers-in-law, Raymond Koshka (Liz), Victor Koshka (Shaneen) and Len Krysko. Her many nieces and nephews, their spouses and their children; especially Katie, Megan and Abby, whom she treasured as her own grandchildren, will hold her memory dear to their hearts. The family would like to say a very special thank you to all the staff at Sherwood Care for the exceptionally compassionate, dignified and loving care Ollie received over the years. We will say our final good bye to Ollie at her Divine Liturgy Saturday, December 9 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Basil's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 7007 – 109 Street, Edmonton. Ollie will be laid to rest beside Joe in St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Chipman. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Alberta and NWT, 10531 Kingsway Avenue NW, Edmonton, AB T5H 4K1 or to Sherwood Care, 2020 Brentwood Blvd, Sherwood Park, AB T8A 0X1.
