Reverend Douglas Carr of Edmonton passed away on March 6, 2016 at the age of 95 years. He is survived by his daughter, Leeanna; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. A.L. Carr; his wife, Olla; son, Bruce; sister, Irene, brother, Arthur; and grandson, Wade. Doug was born in West Lorne, ON, but after the age of eight was raised in Alberta. After graduating from high school in Lacombe he attended the University of Alberta where he received his B.A. degree, then St. Stephen’s Theological College where he received his B.D. Upon his ordination he served United Churches in Beaverlodge, AB, Richmond, BC, Victoria, BC, Calgary, AB and Edmonton, AB. Doug served as Chairman of the Victoria Presbytery of the United Church and later as Chairman of the Calgary Presbytery. He served as President of the Victoria North Kiwanis Club and later was on the Mount Royal College Board in Calgary prior to it becoming a community institution. For some 15 years he was Chaplain for the Southern Alberta Curling Association. Upon his departure from Calgary he was presented with an honorary life membership by the Southern Alberta Curling Association (S.A.C.A.). Doug enjoyed and participated in numerous sports. He was particularly active as a player in hockey, baseball and golf and later as a spectator in his retirement. He skated regularly as a member of the senior’s skating group at West Edmonton Mall until he hung up his skates at the age of 86. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Unit 5F2 at the University of Alberta Hospital for their kindness and compassionate care. Memorial Service for family and friends Thursday, March 10 at 3:30 p.m. at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709 – 111 Avenue. Cremation has taken place.
