Sister Rose Luby Obituary

On Thursday, November 12, 2015 Sr. Rose Luby, a member of the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate, passed away at St. Joseph’s General Hospital in Vegreville, Alberta.
Sr. Rose is survived by her sister, Mary of New York; and her nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Dmytro and Dominica.
Sr. Rose was born in Ottawa, Ontario. Her parents immigrated from Western Ukraine before World War 1. She became acquainted with the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate, who came to teach catechism in the parish in the summer months. Having experienced the call of Christ to religious life, Rose entered the Novitiate of the Sisters Servants in Mundare on November 5, 1944. She took the religious name “Sr. Dosithea”, but in the early 1970’s reverted to her baptismal name, Rose. She made final profession on August 15, 1953.
In her 71 years as a Sister Servant, Sr. Rose Luby generously served her religious community, church and people. For over thirty years, she was a creative and dedicated educator and catechist. She was a local Superior in the Provincial Home in Toronto, Calgary and Edmonton.
Prayers Tuesday, November 17 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, 10825 - 97 Street, Edmonton. Cathedral Clergy officiating.
Rosary Wednesday, November 18 at 9:30 a.m. followed by Divine Liturgy at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Home in Mundare. Basilian Fathers officiating with interment in Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church Cemetery, Mundare. In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made in memory of Sr. Rose for a Divine Liturgy or to St. Joseph’s Home.
