It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Stephanie Catherine Klapkow on December 20, 2015.

She leaves to mourn her two daughters, Deborah (Bob) Michalyk and Elaine Derbyshire; five grandchildren, Nadine (Jamie) Butt, Stephen (Megan) Michalyk, Melissa (Steve) Shaw, Ian Derbyshire and Emily Derbyshire; one great-granddaughter, Elisabeth Shaw; her sister, Natalka Bryant; and companion, Don Hucal. Stephanie was predeceased by her husband, Peter (1982); parents, Nykola and Anne Wolansky; brother, Walter Wolansky; and son-in-law, Patrick Derbyshire.

Stephanie was born in Radway, AB and lived her early years on the family farm. She met her future husband, Peter Klapkow and they were married in 1953 in a country church. They relocated to Edmonton where they raised their family. All her life, Stephanie was deeply devoted to her church. Her kindness and great strength for her family will always be lovingly remembered.

Stephanie’s life will be celebrated with a Divine Liturgy on Tuesday, December 29 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, 10825 – 97 Street. Cathedral Clergy officiating with interment in St. Michael’s Cemetery.

In lieu of tributes to Stephanie, donations in her name can be made to the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Edmonton “Home of Hope” – for orphaned girls in Ukraine, 9645 – 108 Avenue, Edmonton, AB T5H 1A3 or to the St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral “Preservation Fund”, 10825 – 97 Street, Edmonton, AB T5H 2M4.
