It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Val Hicks of Fort McMurray passed away peacefully on May 19, 2016, at the age of 64 years, with her family by her side. Valerie’s life touched so many in the community. She will be lovingly remembered by her family, husband of 37 years, Harvey; three children, Meagan (Dallas) Crawford, Matthew (Marta) Hicks and Patrick Hicks; two grandchildren, Samuel and Ethan; three siblings, Rosamond Yadlowski, Darlene McIntosh and James (Joan) Milne; many nieces, nephews and other extended family. She was predeceased by her parents, James and Janet Milne; brothers-in-law, John Windwick, Wally Yadlowski and Bruce McIntosh. Val had a passion for bringing out the best in children and helping them reach their potential and will be greatly missed by those at Beacon Hill School in Fort McMurray. A Celebration of Val’s Life will be held Wednesday May 25 at 10:00 a.m. at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709 – 111 Avenue, Edmonton. Interment to follow at 1:30 p.m. at Rosehill Cemetery, 1605 - 141 Street SW. In lieu of floral tributes, donations can be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, Cross Cancer Institute, 11560 University Avenue NW, Edmonton, AB T6G 1Z2.
