Wayne Poeter

On June 13, 2016, Wayne Poeter of Mayerthorpe passed away at the age of 70 years. Wayne will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 35 years, Lorna; daughter, Dorothy (Brian) of Edmonton; grandchildren, Wyatt, Amelia and “furry grandson”, Captain; adopted family, Fred (Hannah), Nelles (Mandy), Amelia, Lucy, William, Wilford, Kenya and Wesley of Mayerthorpe; siblings, Lorraine (George) of Prince George, Ralph (Beverley) of Evansburg, Agnes of Nampa and Elaine (Mike) of Nampa; sister-in-law, Bev of Anselmo; and many nephews, nieces, friends and co-workers. Predeceased by parents, Otto and Geneva; and brothers, Allan and Gordon. Many thanks to Dan McCracken and staff of Paddle River Concrete for their love and support and the Mayerthorpe RCMP Detachment for the respect and care shown to Wayne and the family. Wayne will be best remembered for his love of family, all tractors, playing the harmonica, accordion and whistling and sharing ice cream with each of his grandchildren. Wayne had a life-long love of flying; obtained his pilot’s license and flew a Cessna 150. Wayne’s citizen band radio gave him the opportunity to be an armchair traveler the world over. Wayne’s thirst for knowledge about every topic imaginable was infectious; he loved sharing his knowledge with everyone. A Funeral Liturgy will be held Saturday, July 23 at 11:00 a.m. at Anselmo Community Hall, Hwy 647 and RR 102, Anselmo, AB with Reverend Jaya Rajan officiating. Private inurnment at Mayerthorpe Cemetery will take place at a later date. In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made to the MS Society of Canada Alberta Division – Edmonton Chapter, MS Victory Centre, #150, 9405 – 50 Street, Edmonton, AB T6B 2T4 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, NWT & Nunavut, 10985 - 124 Street NW, Edmonton, AB T5M 0H9.
