William Marshall "Paddy" Patterson Obituary

On March 12, 2017, William Marshall “Paddy” Patterson of Whitecourt, AB, formerly of Wainwright, AB, passed away at the age of 96 years. William is survived by his son, John (Reta) of Slocan City, BC; and dear friends, Princess, Handsome and Lovely all of Whitecourt. Predeceased by his wife, Rose; infant daughter, Molly; and sister, Mollie. Marshall, AKA Paddy, was a traveler. He rode the rails and hitch hiked the highways. He crawled aboard his first train at the age of two, to the consternation of his frantic parents. Once discovered and returned, Paddy said they had promised to take him for a train ride and he was tired of waiting. Paddy loved being Irish, playing poker, and he consumed tons of candy, bad coffee, and butter. He understood the value of naps and a good garage sale. With Rose by his side, he was a store owner in Wainwright, Lac La Biche, and Whitecourt. He taught Sunday school, played baseball, and read constantly. A week before his passing he could still recite the alphabet backwards. Marshall was a friend to many in his long and varied life. He will be missed. R.I.P. At Marshall’s request no service will be held.
