Zofia Czaja Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Zofia Czaja on January 12, 2021 at the blessed age of 95 years. Zofia is survived by her cherished sister, Karola, (Katarzyna) Witkowska her only surviving sibling out of seven in the Frankow family. Her children, Irene (husband Dale), Victoria (husband Sam), and her son Edward, Borys (nephew) Ania (wife) and Mateusz (son) (Ania). Zofia cherished her grandchildren, Natalie, (Matt), Steven, Daniel, (Stephanie), Jacqueline (Tobias), Michael, Christina and Rodney, Amelia (great-niece) Sarah and Patrick (children). She has two very special great-grandchildren, Easton and Nixon. Zofia, has several extended family members remaining in Poland. Zofia was born in Swvdnica, Lvov, Poland on February 22, 1925. At a young age she was surrounded by a loving family. This developed her positive outlook of life. She believed that commitment of hard work, lending a helping hand, believing in yourself and treasuring each day will build strength to achieve your personal goals. Her very challenging adulthood developed her strong will of faith, prayer, love and focus on the good in everyone. Zofia and her devoted husband Walter (deceased in 2000) arrived in Canada in 1946. They were briefly in Toronto, Saskatoon and then resided in Edmonton. They built a loving home, made a wide and diverse circle of friends and encouraged their children to embrace Polish culture and traditions as well as others in their community. Zofia’s strength and values paved the way for her new journey in unknown country and unknown path of life. She embraced this opportunity but together with her loving husband they both endured what was best for their family and those around them. Her tenacity to survive and take smart risks inspired her family and those in her community. Zofia treasured and supported many of her extended family in Poland. She always took care of everyone before herself, and will be deeply missed by them and all the hearts and hands she touched. Zofia was a gracious and generous host who enjoyed entertaining family and friends, especially with her amazing, “mouth- watering” traditional polish cooking. She was a skilled and talented seamstress and gardener. Zofia enjoyed the outdoors and getting her hands dirty to create outstanding gardens that shined with color and creating delicious vegetables. Occasionally, she enjoyed a friendly tomato growing challenge with neighbors and friends. She loved music, singing and family vacations. She made friends everywhere she went and had a profound influence on her family, friends and colleagues. The family extends special thanks to everyone for their love and support that has been given. Special thanks to the staff and friends at Shepherds Care- Kensington for their support and care for Zofia where she resided for over 20 years. Also, the amazing team and staff at Foyer Lacombe Hospice for providing the care and additional support that Zofia experienced during the last several months. We would also like to extend our thanks to the paramedics and the support team that facilitated the care that Zofia required. Also, a very special thank you to Dr. Daisy Fung for her outstanding and genuine care for Zofia. Together with the other family doctors who cared for her they demonstrated their commitment for senior care and treat patients like a member of their family. Thank you.
