Alan Palmer Obituary

Alan Palmer April 19, 1944 - October 21,2017 Age 73 years The love of our life, Alan Palmer was welcomed into heaven on that beautiful day of Saturday, October 21st, 2017, after a valiant battle with Lymphoma. Alan was surrounded by his family at his home west of Innisfail at the time of his passing. Alan was born and raised in Aberdare, Wales,UK. He was the first child to George and Margaret Palmer (nee Williams). In 1964 Alan joined the National Health Service to article as a Radiographer. Alan spent the early part of his career touring much of the United Kingdom, working on a interesting project that assessed the exposure miners had in the workplace. Alan then settled in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales,UK to raise his family and serve as a Radiographer at the Prince Charles Hospital. Alan rose through the ranks and was eventually appointed as a Directorate Manager, and held that position until his retirement in 2000. In 2008 Alan and his wife Celia moved to the rural Innisfail area to realize their dream of experiencing country life and be closer to family. In retirement Alan spent much of his time with family and friends, building his dream home, working on vehicles and helping neighbours with farming chores. Alan was an incredibly sociable man. His inquisitive nature, complimented his unique ability to listen and truly understand the people he met. Often he was fascinated by the people from all walks of life that he met and made a point to learn more about their own life's journey. He will be fondly remembered as a selfless, caring man, who was always willing to help and stand by friends and family. His keen sense of humour and sharp wit would easily capture a laugh. We are better people having known and loved Alan. He will forever enrich our lives. Alan will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 47 years Celia of Innisfail, daughter and son-in-law Helen and Stephen Milaney of Red Deer, his son and daughter in-law Robert and Alison Palmer of Nottingham, England along with his 3 grand-daughters, Carys Milaney, Nia Palmer and Myla Palmer, his sister Ann Jenkins (nee Palmer) of Aberdare, Wales UK, along with numerous nieces, nephews, sister and brother-in-laws the many friends and former work colleagues that would travel to visit Alan in Canada, from the UK and Germany.
