Bertha May Silversides entered into her heavenly rest on November 13, 2013 at the age of 104 years. Bertha was born June 6, 1909 on the farm in the Curlew District. She attended school at Curlew, then in 1926 attended Prairie Bible Institute graduating from there in 1931. It was then she felt called into the ministry, so on October 7, 1931 she sailed to China with the China Inland Mission. Bertha took language school and became very fluent in the Mandarin Chinese Language. She served in various parts of China for twenty two years taking the required furloughs. Once back in China, Bertha was forced to flee from the Communist Regime. Back home in Three Hills while on furlough, the mission changed to Overseas Missionary Fellowship. She felt called to go to Malaysia where she served twelve years. She always called her ministry “HELPS”, whether abroad or home. Bertha came back home in 1966 and helped many family and friends right up to her passing. Auntie’s words were : “God was my refuge and strength.” She was our prayer warrior. Bertha was predeceased by her father Edward, mother Emma, sister Marion, brother Chris and nephew Leslie. Bertha is survived by her niece and caregiver Pearl and Brock Henwood, sister in law Irene Silversides, great niece Rochelle and Jeremy Boese, great nephew Gavin and Marlee Raaf, great nieces Sheri Henwood, Lorie and Jamie Tittemore, Bonnie and Neil Sheehan, great great nephews and nieces; Kanin, Talon and Maris Boese, Chloe and Oakley Raaf, Hailey Klemmensen, George and Charlie Tittemore, Noah and Leah Sheehan. A memorial service will be held at Bethel Evangelical Missionary Church on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at 2:00pm. Reception to follow.
