David Evans Obituary

David Evans of Innisfail passed away peacefully on February 16, 2015 at the age of 74 years surrounded by his loving family. Dave was born in Coleman, Alberta on September 29, 1940 to George and Grace Evans. His schooling took place in Coleman, Kimberly and Creston. At the age of 21, Dave’s passion for travel began as he journeyed to England and Scotland to visit relatives. On September 5, 1964, Dave married the love of his life Janet McKain. They began their life together in Calgary where their three children, Jeanne, Jackie and David were born. During this time, he worked for the City of Calgary. For over 30 years, Dave and Janet made their home in the Spruce View area. Dave worked on the construction of the Dickson Dam and once it was completed he continued working at a beautiful place that gave him great pleasure. He loved his work at the Dickson Dam as he was surrounded by the beauty of Glennifer Lake, his passion of fish and the conservation of the environment until his retirement. Dave’s greatest joy was his family. He was so happy when family visited their home. Even in his final days, he perked up when his grandchildren and his precious little great granddaughter Paisley came to visit. Dave was a member of the Dickson Fish & Game, member/past president of the Spruce View Lions Club and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 104, Innisfail for 29 years. As a dad and grandfather, he was a hockey and baseball coach in the Spruce View Minor Hockey Association, Spruce View Minor Baseball and Spruce View Ladies Slowpitch. Grandpa Dave was known to many children as the candy man – with a pocket full of candy to share with everyone young and old. Dave’s favorite interests were fishing especially teaching his grandchildren to fish, camping, cooking, travelling, country music, morning coffee at Timmie’s and cheering on his grandchildren at whatever sport/activity they were participating in. Together, Dave and Janet’s passion was either watching or listening to the Toronto Blue Jays whether they were at home, camping or on the road. He was very happy when they travelled to Seattle to watch them play. Dave’s final wishes were to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary which they did at a wonderful celebration at Gwendale where they also had their wedding dance and to hold his first great grandchild Paisley which he did often. Left to cherish Dave’s memory are his loving wife of 50 years Janet; his children Jeanne (Roy), Jackie (Alan) and David (Cathy); his grandchildren Whitney (Dane), Nicole, Joshua, Danielle (Zak), Logan and his precious great granddaughter Paisley; stepfather Joe Markovich, brothers Jack, Ron (Ollie), Ken (Noreen), Don and sister Joyce, sister in law and brother in law Tom and Verna Chamberlain, brother in law Lanny McKain and their families. He will also be missed by his extended family and many friends. Dave was predeceased by his parents George and Grace Evans, sister Doreen, mother in law and father in law Mike and Ruby McKain. A celebration of Dave’s life will be held on Friday, February 27, 2015 at 1:00pm at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 104, Innisfail. Memorial donations in Dave’s memory may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation or to STARS Air Ambulance. Dave’s strength and positive outlook on life was with him at all times!
