Mrs. Elizabeth ‘Bessie’ Emily Bourne, passed away peacefully at Villa Marie, Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at the age of 103 years. Bessie was born in Springdale, Saskatchewan on March 28, 1916, the sixth of seven children born to Frederick and Emily Gale. Bessie moved to Vancouver, where she and her mother ran a boarding house. In 1959, she married Jesse Bourne, and moved to the farm near Innisfail. There, she helped raise Jesse’s three children and became a typical farm wife. She particularly enjoyed making harvest suppers and eating in the field. She was an excellent cook, loved writing and receiving letters, and was an avid gardener. After retirement, Bessie enjoyed living at Victoria Park until health issues required her to enjoy her last years at Villa Marie in Red Deer. Bessie loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bessie will be lovingly remembered by her children, Gary (Judy) Bourne of Red Deer, Alberta, Barbara Williams of Calgary, Alberta and Jennell (Mike) Saindon of Squamish, British Columbia; seven grandchildren, Sheri, Darrell, Garth, Heather, Danielle, Laren, and Derek and fifteen great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bessie was predeceased by her husband, Jesse Bourne; her parents, Frederick and Emily Gale, and a son-in-law, Dave Williams.
