Elvin Janzen, of Didsbury, went home to be with his Lord on November 20, 2013 at the age of 80 years, after a sudden heart attack. Elvin was born on Sept 3, 1933 in Gouldtown, Saskatchewan to Abram & Justina Janzen, the 3rd youngest of 8 children. He spent his growing up years helping his Dad on the family farm just outside of Gouldtown. He used to love telling stories of working with the threshing crews, taking the horse-drawn carriage to school or walking behind the horses plowing the fields each spring. When he grew up, Elvin attended Millar Memorial Bible School in Pambrun, SK and spent several summers working with Christian camps throughout Saskatchewan. He moved to Calgary, AB in 1956, where he met a lovely lady, Vera Adams, who later became his wife. They spent 54 happy years together, raising 4 children. During his working career, Elvin tried his hand at many different enterprises, ranging from truck driving to designing commercial greenhouses to owning and operating a fleet of school buses. He was a somewhat adventurous entrepreneur, moving throughout the province of Alberta always looking to try something different. His latest venture was to operate a second hand store in Didsbury for a short time just last year. Elvin was predeceased by his oldest son, Gerry, in 1981 and his loving wife, Vera, in 2012. He was also predeceased by several siblings and both his parents. Elvin will be greatly missed by his son Doug (Wendy), of Calgary, his daughter Colleen (Albert) of Innisfail, and his son Darryl (Josie), of Didsbury, as well as his 4 grandchildren; Matthew, Emily, Charlie & Joseph. He will also be lovingly remembered by his younger brother Don (Beth) of Toronto and younger sister Marietta of Salzburg, Austria. Funeral services for Elvin will be held at Heartland Funeral Services, Innisfail, on Friday, Nov. 29, 2013 at 11:00 am with Pastor Dave Wiebe officiating. Interment will follow at the Alto Reste Cemetery in Red Deer.
