Ernest Anton Gisler Dec. 11, 1937 – Aug. 16, 2013 Mr. Ernie Gisler passed away suddenly at his home east of Innisfail, Alberta where he always wanted to be. He was born to Joseph and Margaret Gisler in Weisenberg, Nidwalden, Switzerland, the youngest of five boys. He came to Canada in 1962 at age 26, following his older brother Werner to Alberta. Together with Vern and his wife Pam, they began a dairy farm east of Innisfail in 1964. Over the course of thirty years, Gisler Brothers Dairy grew from ten cows in a ramshackle old barn to a provincially recognized herd of 100 high quality Holsteins in a modern dairy facility. After retiring in 1992 and selling dairy he moved to his own farm. He travelled extensively over the years, returning to Switzerland several times and travelling to South America, North and Eastern Europe, Thailand, Russia, Australia/New Zealand and all over the U.S. and Canada. He was also a founding and current proud member of the Wildrose Yodelers. He lived how he wanted on his own terms. He is survived by his brother Werner, sister-in-law Pam, niece Merna along with nieces Brigitte, Bernadette and Beatrice and nephews Thomas and Joseph and their families in Switzerland. He is also survived by many close friends including Joe and Margaret Rohrer, Sylvia Rohrer, Max Scherrer and many others. If friends so desire memorial tributes may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Alberta Diabetes Foundation or the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
