Ingrid Bergmann Innisfail, Alberta Obituary

Ingrid Bergmann

Ingrid Magdalene Bergmann Ingrid Bergmann passed away peacefully on August 7th, 2019, at the age of 84 years. Born September 2, 1934 in Ladokopp, Germany, Ingrid grew up on the family farm, the youngest of 5 children. Ingrid and her family were forced to flee their home in 1945, and eventually immigrated to Canada in 1951. They worked hard in the sugar beet fields of southern Alberta to fulfill a two-year immigration contract, and then moved to Calgary where Ingrid worked as a housekeeper/nanny, and later at Rosedale Dry Cleaners. Karl and Ingrid were married in Coaldale Alberta on December 20, 1953. They lived in Calgary in various houses while Karl worked in the construction business and later started his own business. A love of farming led them to Acme Alberta in the mid 1960’s, where they purchased their first farm. In the early 1970’s they sold the farm in Acme and moved to Innisfail and farmed in the Cottonwood district. In 1993 they retired from farming and moved to town. Ingrid and Karl continued to pursue their passion for financial ventures which Ingrid continued after Karl’s passing. Their home was a place where all were welcome, and many parties and family reunions were held at the farm, and later in town. In 2014, Ingrid moved to a condo in Beverly Cove and made many new friends there. Her love of gardening, cooking and socializing helped her contribute to her new home and community. Ingrid cherished all her friends dearly and was always ready to go for coffee or lunch at a moment’s notice. Ingrid is lovingly remembered by her children Helga (Doug) Price, Karin (Paddy) Douglas, and Dirk. Ingrid was Oma to Joel (Amanda), Kim (Dan), Robin (Jerome), Kendra (Bryan), Tonay (Evan), Parker (Allison), and Kelty. She was also blessed with 13 great grandchildren who knew her as Uroma – Madison and Brooklyn; Holly, Neve and Romi; Natalie, Lillian and Leo; Owen; Chesney, Hayden and Lane; and Brock. Ingrid was predeceased by her husband Karl, sister Anneliese Schmiegelt and her husband Herbert, brother Helmut Claassen and his wife Katie, brother Manfred Claassen, sister Rosemarie Maclean and her husband Duncan, and niece Elenore Claassen. The family thanks the staff and companions at Newport Harbour in Calgary for all their care. A Memorial Service for Ingrid will be held on August 23 at 2:00pm at the Innisfail United Church (4720 48 Ave). If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Alberta Children’s Hospital, 28 Oki Drive, Calgary AB T3B 6A8.
