Baker Isabella Iva Nov. 29, 1918 – January 7, 2014 Isabel Baker passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at Extendicare Michener Hill in Red Deer at the age of 95. She was predeceased by her husband of 29 years, Frank Baker, in 1977. She was also predeceased by her parents, Bertha and William Hewitt, her sister Marion Hewitt and her brother Jim. She will be missed by her stepdaughter, Elaine Stuart (Robert), daughters, Joan Toliver (Dan), Faye Oszli (Don) and son Jim Baker (Maureen). She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Isabel Hewitt was born at Bulwark, Alberta in 1918 and grew up on the family farm. She taught school in the Castor School District and then in Red Deer where she met and married Frank Baker. They farmed together with Art and May Baker in the Clarendon area east of Innisfail. They raised their children there and Isabel later referred to it as the busiest, happiest time of her life. They retired to Innisfail in 1975 and Isabel renewed her teaching interest through volunteer work. She moved to Red Deer to be closer to family and volunteered with the Adult Literacy Program. Throughout her life Isabel was deeply committed to improving the lives of others through education. Isabel enjoyed life at Parkvale Lodge prior to moving to Red Deer Nursing Home. Later she moved to Extendicare Michener Hill. The family is grateful to the Extendicare staff for their competent and compassionate care.
