Lamont Lewis Innisfail, Alberta Obituary

Lamont Lewis

Gerald Lamont Lewis of Innisfail passed away on November 29, 2013 at the age of 92 years. Lamont was the third of 4 children born at the farm house May 5, 1921 near Windthorst, SK. He told us lots of stories about his childhood, walking to school with his brothers and sister. He always liked family gatherings, skating parties and of course baseball. When the dirty thirties came it forced his dad to bring the family to Alberta. Dad told us about the thirties in SK many times, the dust storms that would block out the sun and searing heat in the summer and of course no rain. When they came to Alberta they settled at Iron Springs near Picture Butte. Because of his father’s death he left school in grade 8 to work on the farm. Later he met Mary and they were married and started farming with his brother Charles and his wife Rhoda. In 1945 they sold their farm down south and moved to Knee Hill Valley, the Calder School District. There they farmed together till 1967 when they sold the farm and moved to Innisfail. Lamont worked for Sparks Machinery, Newman Ford and the County of Red Deer. He started for the Road Crew and later was foreman of the fence crew for 20 years. He loved his work at the County and made many friends there. He is survived by his wife Kay Lewis; son Phil (Maryanne) of Ponoka; grandchildren Paul (Maureen) of Calgary and Rob of Red Deer and his only great grandchild Carter of who he was very proud. He will also be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Lancelot, mother Irene, brothers Charles and Garth, sister Phyllis, sons Lloyd and Barton and first wife Mary. A graveside service will be held at the Innisfail Cemetery on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at 2:00pm with a memorial tea following from 2:30-4:00pm at Heartland Funeral Services. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Kidney Foundation or to the Alberta Diabetes Association.
