Obituary for Lester Arnold Bishop

LESTER ARNOLD BISHOP
1935 – 2017

Mr. Lester Arnold Bishop was born in Westlock, Alberta on February 28, 1935 to Manferd and Ruby Bishop. He grew up on the family farm at Clyde, Alberta with his 8 siblings. When Les was 14, he left the farm and moved up north to work on the rigs. In 1953, he moved to Edmonton, where he met the love of his life, Karen Williams. They were married on May 21, 1955 at the family farm in Clyde. Les worked in the oil patch for many years until 1962, when he quit his job and went to auctioneering school in Billings. He ran the auction market in Morinville, built the one in Boyle and finally settled down in Provost to rebuild Provost Livestock Exchange with his brother Donald. Les was very involved in the community and was instrumental in bringing different businesses to town. But his farm roots were calling to him, and in 1985, they moved to their farm near Hughenden where many wonderful memories were made with his grandkids and other family members.
After selling their farm, Les and Karen retired to Glennifer Lake then eventually to Innisfail, where they continued to make many friends and be active in the community.
Les passed away peacefully on January 8, 2017 with his family by his side at the Innisfail Health Care Centre.
Les will forever be missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Karen, children; Rick, Doug (Kat), Lori (Steve) Carter, and Carmen (Reg) Hoffmann, 15 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, his sister Iris (Arnie) Lank and many other extended family and friends.
Les will always be remembered for his quick wit, his BS around the coffee shops and his open door to anyone that needed a home.
A Celebration of Les’ life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #104 on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 1:00 p.m.
If friends so desire memorial tributes may be made to the Central Alberta Cancer Centre Volunteer Fund, 3942 50A Ave., Red Deer, AB T4N 4E7.
