Mary 'Geraldine' Scott Innisfail, Alberta Obituary

Mary 'Geraldine' Scott

Mrs. Mary ‘Geraldine’ Scott (nee Godin) passed away at the Rosefield Centre, Innisfail, Alberta on Friday, October 2, 2020 at the age of 87 years, five days short of her eighty-eighth birthday. Geraldine was born on October 7, 1932 in Point La Nim, New Brunswick, to Clara and Treffle Godin. She was the eldest of fourteen children. Geraldine was a quiet, gentle, kind soul, who loved her five children and being surrounded by them. This would be why she moved across the country to Alberta, from New Brunswick, to spend her time and get to know her grandchildren and great grandchildren, after retirement. While growing up and living in New Brunswick most of her life, Geraldine loved being a homemaker, and being a part of the Women’s Institute and Dalhousie Figure Skating Club. She loved being a part of these groups because of the ladies she met and the involvement in the community; which she spoke of often, in her later years. She was always there to help anybody who may need it and opened her heart and door to many. Geraldine loved to bake, knit, and sew and taught some of the family how to carry on these skills. After retirement, her second home outside of Alberta was Vancouver Island, throughout the summer months. There, she and Jack would camp, salmon fish and catch prawns, enjoy time with newly made friends, and get in some visits with family that lived there. It was a great place for her children and grandchildren to visit and make memories. In her later years, she watched her grandchildren play different sports, and put in lots of puzzles, games and colouring time with them. They kept her busy when they visited. Geraldine leaves to mourn, with fond and loving memories, her husband of sixty-six years, John ‘Jack’ Scott, her children, Wayne of Airdrie, Alberta, Brian (Carol) of Calgary, Alberta, Jeff (Sharon) of Calgary, Alberta and Krista (Paul) of Innisfail, Alberta; her grandchildren, Natasha, Jonathan, Lindsay, Kelsey, Griffen, and Genna and her great grandchildren, Austin, Mia, Emma and Charlotte; her sisters, Eileen and Jeanette of New Brunswick, and Theresa (Bob) of British Columbia, her brothers, Roger of British Columbia, Willie (Marion) of Ontario and Joseph of New Brunswick; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Geraldine was predeceased by a daughter, Brenda, her parents, Clara and Treffle Godin, and Gladys and Warren Scott, her sisters, Vivian, Charlotte, Leona and Barb, and her brothers, Gerald, Danny and Donnie. She will be missed terribly and carried in our hearts for a lifetime. The family would like to give a special thank you to the nurses, aides and staff; who helped Mom while she was in Acute Care in the Innisfail Hospital, and the month she was in the Rosefield Centre. Your kindness, patience and warm nature did not go unnoticed, thank you! A Private Family Celebration of Life in Geraldine’s honor will be held. A Public Graveside Service will be held in New Mills, New Brunswick, at a later date. If desired, Memorial Donations in Geraldine’s honor may be made directly to the Dementia/Alzheimer's Society of Alberta, 306, 10430 - 61 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta, T6H 2J3 or to the Canadian Cancer Society, 200, 325 Manning Road NE, Calgary, Alberta, T2E 2P5.
