It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Muriel Hileman in Innisfail on February 28, 2015 at the age of 87. Muriel Myra was born May 2, 1927 in Innisfail, the oldest child of Charles and Lillian Lalor. She attended school in Aberdeen and Innisfail. Muriel married George Leslie Hileman in 1947. Early years were spent taking children to and participating in sports. Mom & Dad enjoyed ball games, swim meets, track meets & hockey games. Sunday dinners were often spent at Grannie & Grandad Lalor’s. Muriel was widowed at a young age and went on to become very active with the Legion Ladies Auxiliary and also the Innisfail Legion. Mom became involved with the Poppy Fund, enjoyed the work and continued for over 30 years. The Literacy Award Contest was also a favorite of hers. Included in the many awards and achievements that Mom received was Citizen of the Year in 2006. Mom was one of the early AGT telephone operators as well as a Sears Store Manager; cook at construction camps & at the Innisfail Golf Course. Mom was busy and acquired many good friends over the years. In later years Mom would spend enjoyable hours at the curling rink watching her favorite teams and players. Watching curling and golf on TV gave her great please. Muriel’s greatest love was spending time with her family. Muriel was predeceased by her husband George in 1970, daughter Karen Swain in 2007, grandson Colin Swain in 1977, mother Lillian, father Charles, brothers Wayne, George & Allen and sister Frances. She is survived by daughters Myra (Russell) Scarlett, Janice (Stan) Cummins, Leslie (Don) Flessatti and son Richard (Kathy) Hileman, son-in-law Jack Swain and her wee Scottish daughter Linda Hileman-Moody, brother Bud (Shirley) Lalor and sister-in-law Jean Lalor. Grandchildren Trent (Maggie) Scarlett, Tara Scarlett, Jacqui (Cam) Renwick, Patti (Colin) Smith, Lane (Katharina) Cummins, Kaelee Flessatti, Lauren Flessatti (Craig Johnson & his daughter Tianna), Sara Hileman, Alison Hileman (fiancée Preston Pellegrini) and Alana Hileman. Great grandchildren Presley & Brynn Smith, Hope, Chase & Carrington Cummins, Logan & Liam Scarlett, and many nieces, nephews & cousins. The family would like to thank the staff at the Country Manor for their care and compassion and to Dr. Maree and staff at the Innisfail Hospital. If friends so desire memorial tributes may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of their choice. A memorial service will be held in Innisfail on Thursday, March 5th, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 104. Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Innisfail entrusted with arrangements.
