Ronald Olson Obituary

Ronald “Spencer” Olson November 11th 1946 - May 12th 2013 Spencer Olson or Spence, Dad, Papa or Penny known to the select few was hardworking, kind and a honest man who died on Mother’s Day Sunday May 12th, 2013 Spencer loved a good afternoon spent searching out treasure at the local Value Village or Salvation Army or “Sally Anne” known to her regular customers as Dad was. He had a love for searching isle after isle for treasures and usually left with very little. In case he did need something he would of found it there. Dad had a lifelong love affair with Ice cream, from Dilly Bars, drumsticks and creamsicles and his favourite strawberry sundaes. His T-bone steak was a quarter inch thick piece of bologna between two pieces of white fresh bread with mayonnaise and mustard and a side of canned tomatoes littered with salt and pepper. No matter what establishment he dined the same question was asked. “Do you think the Fish n Chips are any good here?” Dad was selfless, a true giver, full of faith. He believed every day was a new day and a new start. Just turn the page he would say. Live the type of life that at the end of your journey you could hold your head up too. He was a gifted carpenter, building anything out of wood. Clocks, furniture, toys. He even built two of his homes from the ground up. Always living within his means, watching nature DVD’s, predicting the winner of a boxing match or flipping between Diners, Drive In’s and Dives and Storage wars. Dad loved riding his Harley through God’s Country anytime the sunshine would allow him the opportunity. He lit up when his Grandchildren Zachary (14), Ireland (13), Grace (9), Ella (8) and Lucas (6)came for a visit. Papa always had a pocket full of papa candies ready to be handed out. He was always present at their Hockey games, basketball, baseball, swimming, gymnastic or school plays. He loved them dearly and No wasn’t a part of his vocabulary when it came to his grandkids. Ice cream for supper well….. I don’t see why not. Spence took fashion cues from no one. His signature look was all his. Jeans with a 100% cotton t-shirt from the Fashion House of Harley Davidson or his wildlife shirts sold exclusively at Sally Anne. Occasionally you could catch him sporting one of his “5” Fedora hats. Preferably his black one which resembled one his Dad used to wear. He disliked, people who didn’t put there signal light on when they were turning, not putting things back where you got them, unshoveled snow, messy work sites, disorganization, and cold coffee. Dad passed away on Mother’s Day. This had some irony to it considering he was both Mother and Father to Shayne and I our entire lives. One year to the day …..May 12th 2012. Dad came over it was a Saturday mid day and brought 3 wooden puzzles he had made for the girls out of a thick branch. Dad said, I thought I would try something different. I hope the kids enjoy them. Isn’t that what life is about taking it apart to put it back together till it fits. Who knew a year later we would be trying to put our heart back together to a life that doesn’t fit without him. Finally we ask that in honour of our Dad Spence, You crank up your music up and roll down the window and enjoy some sunshine and give back every chance you get. Love Always your Daughter Sherri and Son Shayne Olson
