Here are some memories from that book. Family meant the most to Mom. Families are like branches on a tree. We grow in different directions yet our roots remain as one. She gave unconditional love and was proud of each of us. Mom was a hard worker who balanced working at Crowley & McCracken and the Royal Hotel while raising a family of seven - Yet she still found time to attend school concerts and our activities. She actively fundraised through bake sales and working Bingos to ensure that our brother Dean could take part in the Special Olympics in Winnipeg. She took great pleasure when Dean's eyes lit up as he boarded the plane to the competition. Mom even made a special trip to The Pas to watch her grandson play hockey. Mom was always full of energy and took the time to listen to us as we told her about our daily events even though sometimes we all talked at the same time. Thanks mom for teaching us the value of good hard work and the sense of accomplishment which comes with it. Mom was a forward thinker, reading and watching TV to find out what's new and willing to try something different. She embraced the multitude of change that has spanned her lifetime. Her fierceness and independence was how we learned to walk the path we have chosen. Mom was always known for her cooking and baking. She was always busy in the kitchen making perogies, cabbage rolls, borscht and the best potatoe cakes in the world. We especially loved her home made donuts - shaking them in the brown paper bag to sugar coat them and then the taste test. Grandma made the best tang.....glasses and glasses of tang was drank when we came to visit her. Mom would always try to feed us more food than we could eat and fill us full of goodies. Mom loved flowers. Her face lit up when showing her beautiful flowers that made the whole yard look so pretty. We all remember her beautiful lush garden. We loved her endless amounts of peas, raspberries and carrots. We loved hearing stories of life on the farm. When visiting I would drink hot chocolate and chat about everything from her garden to her younger days or sit on her couch and go through picture upon picture. Her living room was filled with pictures of her family. Mom loved to crochet, knit, and cross stitch. She made the cosiest knit blankets, crocheted doilies, Ukrainian costumes, pillows and home decorations. Grandma's homemade gift shows how much love, detail, and thought she put into it. Grandma's gifts became my most favourite present to open on Christmas morning. She was my "Crochet Grandma". Mom enjoyed playing Saturday morning bingo and more recently the Saturday evening TV bingo. She enjoyed scratching tickets and would get excited when she would get a winner. Mom also loved to keep fit and exercised daily. Her grandchildren have memories of doing stretching exercises with Dean and Grandma as a nightly exercise routines. Mom was a devote Ukrainian Catholic. Growing up she made sure her children attended Ukrainian school, Catechism and Ukrainian dancing. When Grandpa died, Mom sat me down the afternoon after the funeral and told me life would go on, that as hard as it was to imagine, we would be happy again. She helped me to understand death was a part of life we could never escape and we must learn to be accepting of it. A mother is always right. You will never be forgotten for though we are apart, you are always and forever alive within our hearts. Love you forever Mom/Grandma. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation and sincerely thank the first responders for their compassion and assistance; Darren, Dana and staff for the excellent service provided; and friends and family for the food, cards, phone calls, flowers, prayers, and donations to charities. Special thanks to Father Paul Bringleson for officiating the memorial service and to Cathy Daneliuk for your time, support, and kindness. Words cannot express our appreciation for all that was done for us.
