Kenneth Charles Obituary

Dad didn’t tell us how to live; he lived and let us watch him do it! Ken Charles, age 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 26, 2019 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He will be missed by his son’s Bill (Debbie) and Calvin (Tammy); grandchildren Wes (Sarah), Carey (Jill), Jared, Colin (Mel), Colton (Chantal), Austin; and great-grandchildren Emily, Madison, Cole, Samantha and Allison. He also leaves behind extended family members Helen Ptak, Kamilia Pshednovek, Ethel Pshednovek and many nieces and nephews . He was predeceased by his wife Emily, daughter Dianne Dropko, son-in-law Ken Dropko; parents Sherman and Pearl and his sister’s Isabelle and Ruby. Dad married his sweetheart, Emily and lived his entire life on Millbrook Road in the RM of Springfield until the last 5 months of his life. In the early years he served on the Millbrook School board and drove school bus but his passion lied with farming and his excavation work with the company he built, Charles Construction. Dad was never happier than when operating his heavy equipment with the exception of going out and about doing job estimates with his ‘secretary’ (Emily) by his side. He had a skilled eye for leveling and landscaping and he had many happy customers through the years. Eventually Dad retired and Bill took over the business but he still kept busy around the farmstead. Booting around on his golf cart and visiting his kids was one of the many joys in his life. Dad will be missed beyond words. We would like to thank all the people who touched Dads life. Thank you to Dr. Nader Shenouda at Kin Place Health Complex, Dr Julie Kickbush and Dr Andrew Cooke at Cancer Care. Thank you to all the staff at Springfield Place in Oakbank for making Dad’s five months there so enjoyable. There will be a come and go Celebration of Life, Friday, August 2, 2019, between 1:00-3:00pm at Seasons Funeral Chapel, 576 Balsam Crescent, Oakbank, MB.
