One for the Record Books

Supported and surrounded by his family, Ross completed his last marathon with class and bravery. Ross Ernest Gridley, born on July 29, 1947 was the eldest son of Ernest and Verna Gridley. He leaves cheering in the stands his wife of 45 years, Phyllis Gridley, his daughter Marleen Jonker (Neil), his son Matthew Gridley (Fumi), grandchildren Noah and Wyatt, siblings Kristine Nedohin (Neill) and Bill Gridley (Lori), as well as many loving supporters.

He began his marathon in Silver Heights, Winnipeg, following the course through St. Boniface, Tyndall Park, and Fort Rouge, completing the longest leg in Oakbank, Manitoba. Ross’ priority was always teaming up with Phyllis to set the markers, allowing and encouraging their children to become self-confident and compassionate individuals. However, the rules were rewritten once Noah and Wyatt joined the team. Grampa was their number one fan.

Ross had a variety of interesting career experiences in engineering and management. He found time for many unfolding hobbies, including painting, practicing taekwondo, reading, working on cars, dirt-biking, running, golfing, studying history, volunteering, lawn bowling, curling, and traveling.

Ross handled the detours and frozen potholes in his marathon of life with dignity, bravery, and determination.

Celebration of life will be held at Oakbank United Church, 582 Balsam Crescent, Oakbank, Manitoba on Friday September 20th, at 2pm. A private internment will take place.
