Agnes Flett Obituary

After a long battle with diabetes and cancer Agnes passed away with family and friends by her side on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at her home located on Opaskwayak Cree Nation at the age of 68 years. Celebrating the life of our mother, sister, niece, auntie, godmother, grandmother and friend Agnes Flett. Agnes Myrtle Flett (nee: Genaille) (also known as Muka Bear or Potson) was born Sunday, February 8, 1942 at the Barrows Junction, Manitoba, daughter to Clara and Hector Genaille. Our mother grew up in Barrows and Red Deer Lake, Manitoba. She had spent many hours working hard assisting in maintaining the household, watching over her siblings, hunting, trapping, gardening, fishing and looking after her own horse. She attended school at Red Deer Lake School completing grade seven. From there she moved to The Pas to work at the sanatorium located at Clearwater Lake, Manitoba where she met our father, John Flett on a bus coming to The Pas, Manitoba. Agnes was married to John Flett on January 8, 1958 and together they raised their children. Agnes and John had eight boys trying and finally receiving their baby girl, Geraldine. Our mother worked in The Pas as a Nurse’s Aide at the Clearwater Lake Sanatorium, Fairview, St. Paul’s, The Pas Health Complex and McGillivary Care Home. Our mother enjoyed and assisted our father as they both worked to provide for the family. After many years of dedicated work our mother retired from the McGillivary Care Home in 2004. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping: going out with her daughter, Geraldine. She was willing to help others when it was needed, and loved being outdoors visiting with friends and family. Our mother was gifted in traditional art; she would complete her own beading for her moccasins and gauntlets. She was very proud to teach and pass this down to her grandchildren, Rilee and Melanie. Agnes leaves to mourn her children Rodney (Brenda Martin) Sr., Tony (Sheila), John, Ernie (Dana), Dennis (Juanita Cody), Michael (Wendy), Delbert (Wendy Caribou), Riley (Chrissy) and her baby Geraldine (Patrick) Ettawakapow; grandchildren Bert, Christine Campeau, Desiree, Tito Clark, Despina Clark, Katie, Tony Jr., Chantal, Thor, Glenda, John, Roxy, Winston, Nicole, Brandi, Dale, Jensen, Spencer, Tahnee, Cody, Brandon, Derek, Ernie Jr., Malachi, Mikayla, George McKay, Dawn Marie, Hunter, Cleo, Michael Jr., Logan, Laura, Karlee Benson, Kaitlyn Caribou, Zeanna Caribou, Preston Caribou, Nathan Caribou, Lorette Caribou, Randy, Hailey, Natasha, Rilee, Melanie, Patricka, Patrick Jr., Catherine and Jodi Melnick; great grandchildren Freda, Tristen, Skylar, Ray-Sean, Kierra, Shayla, Memphis, Billy, Mikey, Kaylee, Dreyden, Jayden, Leighton, Tess, Thaniel, Danielle, Dom, and Trinity; sisters Diane, Melvina, Pricilla, Marilyn and Sarah; brothers Rainee, Vern, Manny and Dennis; sisters-in-law, Maggie Flett, Nancy (Lucien) Spence, Josephine (Norman) Budd; brother-in-law Henry (Rebecca) Flett; aunties, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews to numerous to mention.
