Alexander Constant THE PAS, Manitoba Obituary

Alexander Constant

Alexander Wilfred (Alex) Constant, beloved husband, father, grandfather, chapan, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at the age of 65 years after a most courageous battle with heart and liver disease. He is survived by his children, Michael, Morris, Jacqueline, Samantha, Angelique, and Jenelle; 21 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Alex was born on November 10, 1948 in The Pas, MB to Lazarus "Trapper" Constant and Charlotte Constant nee Sinclair. At an early age, with the loss of his mother Charlotte, Dad and brother Arnold were raised for a period of time by grandmother Eva Sinclair in Moose Lake, MB. Along with the help of uncles: John George, Norman, James Sinclair and auntie Christina Sinclair. Our dad was appreciative of the nurturing and care they received as youngsters while residing in Moose Lake. Throughout the years, Dad kept strong ties with Moose Lake family and friends. At 15 years of age, Dad came to Opaskwayak to live with his dad Trapper and stepmother Barbara - affectionately known as "Cook". After attaining his grade 10 education, Dad joined the workforce. His first place of employment was CFI (Tolko). After courting our mom for a year and a half, Dad married our Mom at the age of 19. Together they were blessed with four beautiful children Kelvin, Michael, Morris, Jacqueline. Later on, the Creator brought them Angelique, Samantha, and Jenelle. Throughout the years, our Dad was employed in various sectors of the workforce. For Opaskwayak, he served as Band Constable for many years. As an entrepreneur, he along with his brother Arnold, brought the first gas rebate station to OCN. He also tried farming as a way of life. He had many adventures with his cattle ranching! Dad enjoyed the traditional way of life. He was a trapper, fisherman, and hunter. He was a fisherman until his health condition would not allow him to go out on the boat. Dad remained an active member of the Fur Council, Trappers Association and the Commercial Fisherman's Co-op. Back in the day, Dad was a member of the Constant 5 Band. He enjoyed fiddling and spent many hours listening to fiddling music. In his early years, he was also a dog musher and he participated in the Trappers Festival dog races with great pride. Dad loved the game of hockey the best. As a young man, he played with The Pas Blues hockey team and was one of the greatest hockey players around. Our mom and dad travelled a lot for the love of hockey! As Dad grew older, he continued to spend time at the rink cheering on his nephews, nieces and grandchildren as they played the game. The other sports that took up our Dad's time was soccer and baseball. Many weekends were spent at Fischer Island as we cheered on our Dad and his team, the Reserve 11s. Dad was known for his generous heart and home. People from all walks of life resided at the house including Clarence "Cheap" Constant, Allan Goulet, Clint Hooge, Louis "Goofie" Lathlin, Philip Highway, as well as extended family from Moose Lake, the Greys, Bignells, Scotts family. Dad is survived by his children, Michael, Morris, Jacqueline, Angelique, Samantha, and Jenelle; stepmother Barbara Constant, Brother Arnold (Carolyn), Sister Bev (Derek); uncles John George (Lillian), Norman (Shirley), James (Helen), special cousin, Sylvia (Albert); in laws Eileen Cook and John Peter Cook; Margie (Silas), Yvonne, Lena (Stan), Mary, Deborah, Ida, Stan (Annie), Joe (Val), Walter (Cecilia) and Dino; grandchildren, Danielle, Steven, Julian, Keegan, Sierra, Tory, Alex, Morris, Tanner, Leland, Alexis, Taylor, Hailey, Eric, Jessie, Joey, Johnny, Julie; Cheyanne, Mackayla; great grand children Rory, Ryder, Brock, Riley, Violet; nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews too numerous to mention.
