Anthony Moule Obituary

Anthony Merrick Moule was born Saturday, November 22, 1924 in Ninette, MB, the third child of George and Mae Moule. Tony’s family moved to The Pas in 1929, when his mom and dad bought The Pas Bakery, renaming it Sunrise Bakery. He often told of his mom shooing him away from the donuts, tarts and other sweets and sending him off to the movies instead. Still, some of those goodies made it to the movie house for himself and his friends. Tony attended Red Brick School until graduating from high school in 1943. During his teen years, Tony was active in sports, particularly track and field where he won many medals. He also played hockey. Tony’s after school and weekend job was as a delivery boy for Caroll’s Hardware. Later he would chuckle and explain, the driving test was simple: If you could drive forward 10 feet and backwards 10 feet, you were good to go. Tony joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1943, training as a Wireless Air Gunner. He transferred to the Canadian Army to prepare for the frontlines. Tony’s knack for money management led to a side job in the Army, taking care of fellow officer’s money. As instructed, he refused their baleful pleas to ensure that money took the officers through to the next cheque. Years later, it was a skill Tony put to good use in his administrative career. Thankfully, the war ended before Tony completed his training. He was honorably discharged and proceeded to further his education at Angus College in Winnipeg where he obtained an accounting certificate. Around this time, Tony married Alma Sabbe, a spunky young woman who shared a fun-loving spirit. They had six children: Carol, Louise, Barbara, Marylin, Jim and Lisa. After his accounting certificate, Tony earned a Degree in Business Management and went on to work at Keystone Fisheries until 1951. He was hired as the Town of The Pas Secretary/Treasurer, later to be promoted to Town Administrator. Tony also provided accounting services for the Legion and the Sacred Heart Parish. Retiring in May of 1990, Tony had big plans to concentrate on his painting skills, of which he was quite proficient. He also planned to make plenty of time for relaxing with a movie….or two, or three. Tony grew into an avid shopper as well and often defended his shopping habits by saying, “If one is good, two is better!” His sense of humor and his playfulness was much loved by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Tony passed away peacefully Monday, August 9, 2010 at St. Paul’s Personal Care Home, The Pas, Manitoba, age 85 years. Tony is predeceased by his parents George Alfred and Louisa Mae Moule, his brothers Derrick and Gerald, his daughter Barbara Hay and infant granddaughter Pamela Hopper. He is survived by his wife Alma Moule, his daughter Carol (Gary) Hopper: grandchildren Korrie (Andrew) Hopper/Forward (great grandchildren Grace and Sarah), Amy (Harley) Hopper/Bon (great grandchildren Erik, Caylin and Lynelle), Brooke (Trevor) Hopper/Lane (great grandchild Dreux); daughter Louise Brown (Rick Brown): grandchildren Nicole (Einstein) Capati (great grandchildren Peyton, Ashton and Eden), Mark (Melody) Brown (great grandchildren Cadance and Chloe), Merrick (Eliza) Brown; son-in-law Rick Hay: grandchildren Angie Hay, Lana Hay (Steve Hanson) (great grandchildren Brett and Jordan McNarland), Dallas (Karra) Hay (great grandchildren Rachlan and Ryann); daughter Marilyn (Kim) Taylor: Darren (Carrie) Taylor (great grandchildren Morgan and Vienna), Kevin (Elisha) Taylor (great grandchild Quinton); his son Jim (Juliana) Moule: grandchildren David and Julian; and daughter Lisa Moule (James Turner): grandchild Sage. As Tony would often say, “Voila, c’est tu!” Prayers, visitation and a mass of thanksgiving for Tony’s life were held Thursday, August 12, 2010, 7:00 pm at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cathedral, The Pas, Manitoba with Rev. Paul Bringleson presiding. Music ministry was provided by Rochelle Rydberg and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Choir. Scripture readings were proclaimed by Harley Bon, Andrew Forward and Trevor Lane. Christian Burial for Tony was held Friday, August 13, 2010, 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cathedral, The Pas, Manitoba with Rev. Paul Bringleson presiding. Music ministry was provided by Rochelle Rydberg and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Choir. Eulogy was delivered by Jim Moule. Scripture readings were proclaimed by Harley Bon, Andrew Forward, Juliana Moule and Trevor Lane. Interment followed at Lakeside Cemetery, The Pas, Manitoba. Pallbearers were Tony’s grandchildren Juliana Moule, Dallas Hay, Lana Hay, Angie Hay, Merrick Brown, Korrie Hopper, Amy Hopper, Brooke Hopper, David Moule, Nicole Brown and Kevin Taylor. Honorary Pallbearers were Sage Turner, Mark Brown, Darren Taylor, Fred Krauss, Merv Marchenski, and Tony’s Homecare Support. Ushers were Caylin Hopper, Erik Chamberlain-Bon, Brett McNarland and Jordon McNarland. If friends so desire, donations to the Friends of Sam Waller Endowment Fund, Box 185, The Pas, Manitoba, R9A 1K4 would be appreciated by Tony’s family. The family would like to say a heart-felt thank you to Dr. Pinder for his professional care, to Joanne Mayuk and all the wonderful Homecare staff who made it possible for Tony to reside at home, enjoying quality of life for so many years and to Miki Martin for the expert “pedis”. Thank you to those nurses, aids and support staff at St. Paul’s Residence and St. Anthony’s Hospital who had gentle hands and kind hearts. All of your care and attention to the man we loved so much touched our lives in ways you could not imagine.
