Betty Crozier Obituary

Mom was born Wednesday, June 23, 1937 in Drake, SK and grew up in nearby Lanigan, SK. She was the oldest of 4 children and the only daughter, born to David & Hilda Schmidt. It was love at first sight when Ken Crozier spotted Betty through a pair of welding goggles while sitting on a mechanics truck. The rest he says is history! They married on May 1st, 1959. Their love endured 54 wonderful years and produced 3 handsome and caring boys, Dave, Les and Jamie. As much as Mom hoped to one day have a girl, she wouldn’t have traded her boys for anything. They made her so proud of their accomplishments and the way embraced life to the fullest, with such compassion for those around them. You’ve never seen a more proud Grandma than she was when the grandchildren came along. She adored her grandkids, and welcomed them out to the farm as much as possible, showing them her love for gardening, teaching them to knit, and spoiling them rotten with things that only a grandparent can. She was always a hands on grandparent. Ken & Betty made the move to The Pas, MB in 1972 and set down roots just south of town. Betty developed such a passion for gardening and flowers that she joined The Pas Horticultural Society for many years and won the Grand Aggregate too many times to count, making her family proud and her flowers well known around town. Playing cards was another of Betty’s passion. Canasta tournaments happened frequently in their household and though she’d sit silently at one end of the table contemplating her next move, you just knew she was going to nail you with a handful of points! It’s always the quiet ones. After a long battle with dementia, Betty passed peacefully Thursday, July 4th, 2013 with Ken by her side. She leaves to mourn her loving husband of 54 years, Ken; sons Dave (Kathy), Les (Dawn), and Jamie (Wendy); grandchildren Kourtney, Cody, Chris, Alex, Michelle, Emilee, Jace and Isabella; siblings Robert Schmidt (Evelyn), Edward Schmidt and Gary Schmidt (deceased June 2013); numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Her request was to have no service and her ashes will be interned at a later date in Saskatchewan. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Alzheimer Society of Canada in her name.
