Carol Tavener THE PAS, Manitoba Obituary

Carol Tavener

Carol Diane Tavener (nee Still) was born Saturday, January 3, 1959 to Charles Armstrong Still and Jean Francis Still in Winnipeg, MB. Carol grew up in Winnipeg with her three brothers Jim, Chuck, and Kenny. Many of her fondest childhood memories were had at her grandparents’ cabin in Moth Lake, ON. When Charles passed away in 1968, Carol was only nine years old. In the fall of 1973 Carol’s mother Jean moved to The Pas, marrying Leo Bourgouin. Carol gained step brother Rene and step sister Suzette. Here Carol met and fell in love with her soulmate Cub. They married May 14, 1977 at the Westminster United Church in The Pas. Together they raised three children; Michael, Shannon, and Matthew. Cub and Carol enjoyed 42 years together. To the very last day of Carol’s life she was Cub’s “Babe” and him hers. Carol’s life’s work was being a great mother to her kids and a “gramma on call” to babysit her three granddaughters whom she loved very much. Carol had a down to earth, genuine personality and an appreciation for the simple things in life. A good book and a cup of coffee, a pretty bloom on one of her flowers, a tasty batch of jam, or a pickerel tugging on her line were a few of the things that she really enjoyed. Some of her interests included photography, knitting, fishing, gardening, baking, and her online animation groups where she made long lasting friendships. Carol was a strong woman. This showed as she soldiered on through the hardships of her illness, all the time with her doting, loving husband at her side. Carol is survived by husband Calvin “Cub”; sons Michael (Natalie), Matthew (Jeni-Lee); daughter Shannon (David); granddaughters Sharona, Rachael, and Nola; mother Jean Bourgouin; brothers Jim, Chuck, Kenny; step brother Rene; step sister Suzette; as well as many in-laws, relatives, nieces and nephews. Our family would like to thank the staff of the 2nd Floor ACIU of St. Anthony’s Hospital, The Pas, for caring for mom in her final weeks. A special, heartfelt thanks goes out to the truly caring nurses and staff that went out of their way to keep her comfortable, share a joke or style her hair. Words can’t express the appreciation we feel. So many condolences, flowers and food were sent to the house in the days following mum’s passing that we’d risk leaving a name out if we tried listing them. So thank you to everyone, you know who you are. Thanks as well to the compassionate staff of Hemauer’s Funeral Home for walking us through the necessary steps. It has made an incredibly difficult time a little easier. As per Carol’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of Carol’s life will be held Saturday July 16, 2016, 1:00pm, at the Westminster United Church, The Pas, MB, with James Hemauer presiding. If friends so desire, donations to St. Anthony’s Hospital, Acute Care Ward, Box 240, The Pas, Manitoba, R9A 1K4, would be appreciated by Carol’s family.
