Christie Ann McCann was born Sunday, November 10, 1957 in The Pas, Manitoba.
Christie, affectionately known as “GeeAnn” by everyone who knew her, was a very loving mother to her children and grandchildren. She was always concerned about their well-being and prayed for their safety. Jonathan lived close by her at Young’s Point. Johnny and Franklin visited their mother frequently making sure that she was okay. “GeeAnn” loved spending time with her grandchildren.
GeeAnn’s pastime favourites were making crafts, going to bingo, going to or holding garage sales and listening to Cree gospel hymns. She was a member of the “Home Visit Singers”. This group would attend wakes and funerals to assist in the singing.
GeeAnn worked at various hotel establishments as a waitress. Her last place of work was at the Wescana Inn as a chambermaid. She made a lot of friends during this period.
GeeAnn was a very giving person. She was always willing to share what little she had even if it meant going without for herself. She was supportive of everybody and anybody and always gave her best. She was an outgoing lady who was always making people laugh with her jokes and silly antics. She often told stories of how she was mischievous as a child. She respected all the people that were a part of her life.
GeeAnn was a proud member of the Church of Redeemer ACW. Before her ill health she was willing to work at whatever the ACW had plans for whether it was serving meals during Indian Days and Trappers Festival, cooking at wakes/funerals and other activities. She faithfully attended meetings. She served as treasurer for the ACW and was a lifetime member. She was also president of Little Helpers.
She often reflected on the relatives that had passed on, especially her mother, Susan McCann, whom she missed dearly.
Christie passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, August 10, 2011 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, age 53 years.
