Corinto Catalano Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of our husband, father and bumpa, Tuesday, October 30, 2012, at St. Anthony’s Hospital, The Pas, Manitoba, at the age of 76 years. Corinto was born Sunday, March 8, 1936 in Guilmi, Italy and was the youngest of 11 children. Connie first came to Canada in 1957 to work with CNR in Baden, Manitoba. Two years later he returned to Italy to marry his bride, Elena Lizzi. He returned to Canada and began working in the hospital. Mom joined him here and together they set up their home. The first of three children, Mario was born in 1967. Later that year a move to Churchill was made and the family grew with the addition of Tony in 1969 and Tania in 1974. Dad worked for the Pan-American airlines in Fort Churchill and the family was able to travel home to Italy for yearly visits. The family returned to The Pas in 1983 and have remained since. Living on Rahl’s Island, dad renewed his old friendships. Being from Italy, dad had a love of football (soccer) and was blessed with many friends he made while playing with the men from The Pas, OCN and Big Eddy. He enjoyed time with all of the coffee crews over the years and playing cards in the evening. Corinto is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elena; his children and their families; Mario, Brenda, Charlie, Chelsea and kids, Ashley and girls; Tony, Tania, Lanaya, Nico and Gianna; Tania, Trinity, Tye and Trystin. Connie also has one surviving sister Quintina and brother Novilio in Italy. In keeping with Connie’s wishes, cremation took place and a Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Connie’s life was held Saturday, November 3, 2012, at 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cathedral, The Pas, Manitoba with Rev. Jack Herklotz OMI, presiding. Music Ministry was provided by Rochelle Rydberg. Urn Bearers were Connie’s sons Mario and Tony Catalano. Memories of the heart were shared by son-in-law Trinity Sulatyski and James Hemauer. Scripture readings were proclaimed by grandchildren Gianna Catalano and Trystin Sulatyski. Immediately following the service family and friends gathered at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall for a time of fellowship and refreshment. If friends so desire, donations to the St. Paul’s Residence Equity Fund, c/o Activities, Box 240, The Pas, Manitoba, R9A 1K4 or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10 -120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 9Z9, would be appreciated by Connie’s family.
