Cynthia Renner Obituary

On Sunday, May 26th, 2013, Cynthia “Cindy” Ann Renner of The Pas, Manitoba passed away peacefully with her children by her side, at the age of 66 years, at St. Anthony’s Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Cindy was born Tuesday, May 13, 1947 in Gladstone, MB, to Vaughan and Patricia Clayton and lived on a farm in the Palestine area for the first ten years of her life. Cindy and her family later moved to Calgary, AB and then to Winnipeg, MB where Cindy completed school. Cindy was married to Roland Gooch in Winnipeg, MB in 1967 and lived with him in England until 1978. While she was there, Cindy completed programs in nursing and midwifery. Cindy returned to Canada in 1978 and became a nurse in Labour and Delivery at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, MB. In 1980, Cindy met Dave Renner and moved to The Pas, MB. During their time together, Cindy and Dave had two children, Gayle and Stephen. While living in The Pas, Cindy continued to further her education, completing a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Brandon University and graduating in 1993. Cindy enjoyed a long and satisfying career as a nurse, working at St. Anthony’s Hospital in The Pas, and later becoming the Home Care Case Coordinator for the Nor-Man RHA, a position she held for many years. Throughout her career, Cindy was able to help many people and her kind, generous spirit and positive attitude allowed her to excel in her field. Cindy was a designated board member for the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba, a position that allowed her opportunities to both travel and to represent her fellow nurses in the RHA. Cindy had many friends and interests. She enjoyed quilting, attending plays and musicals and exploring museums. Most of all, she loved to travel and made trips to Ireland, England and Scotland, the Panama Canal, New Orleans, San Antonio, Puerto Rico, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa and P.E.I. with friends and family. Cindy’s feisty personality and strong will combined with her ability to constantly look on the bright side ensured that she was always surrounded by a close circle of friends. Cindy was very active in her community, belonging to the Red Hat’s and Crown Jewel’s Societies, the Lions Club, the Alliance Club, attending quilting classes, and volunteering with the United Church. Cindy loved her family and was looking forward to the birth of her first grand daughter later this summer. Cindy is survived by her children Gayle Renner and Stephen Renner (Ashley); mother Patricia Fleming (Doug); sisters Janis Wiens (Ken) and Sharon Baum; stepson Greg Renner (Kari) and his children. She was predeceased by her father Vaughan Clayton (1956.) In keeping with Cindy’s wishes, cremation took place and a service of remembrance to celebrate her life was held Saturday, June 1, 2013, at 11:00 am, at the Westminster United Church, The Pas, Manitoba with Lay Minister Linda Buchanan presiding. Memories of the heart were shared by Sharon Baum and Alice Spence. Tribute poems were read by Janet Constable and Ken Wiens. Following the service a reception was held for family and friends at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall. If friends so wish, donations can be made to “A Port in the Storm”, Box 85, 208 Provencher Blvd., Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2H 0G0, in lieu of flowers. Cindy’s family would like to thank the nursing staff in the ACIU, Dr. C.T.Noel and the Home Care Team at the Primary Health Center. Thanks to “The Breakfast Club”, the Westminster United Church, The Pas Red Hat’s Society and the Crown Jewels Society and a special thank you to all of Cindy’s friends for their continued support.
