Darrell Custer THE PAS, Manitoba Obituary

Darrell Custer

Darrell Melvin Custer passed away suddenly at his residence on Opaskwayak Cree Nation, Manitoba, Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at the age of 45 years. Darrell was born Wednesday, November 15, 1967 in Nipawin, Saskatchewan. The only child to Donald Walter Lindsay and Margaret Custer. Darrell spent most of his adult years in and around The Pas, Manitoba. It was in The Pas, MB where he met the love of his life, Debbie Lathlin and married her on July 15, 2000. When Darrell came into Debbie’s life, Debbie was a single mother of three teen children, Robert Lathlin, Jasmine Lathlin, and Bradley Lathlin. Instead of running for the hills, Darrell worked hard at earning their love, trust and respect and it wasn’t long before he won them over and filled the shoes of becoming their daddy. Darrell loved his family and worked hard to provide for them. The greatest joy in Darrell’s life was his grandchildren who he was constantly bragging about, Darian Lathlin-Crane, Aaliyah Frank, Dayson Frank and Tashiena Lathlin-Bear. In 2005, Darrell began working toward his passion in becoming a qualified red sealed electrician and reached his goal in June of 2013. He was looking forward to earning the “big bucks” at the Waskatim Dam where he was currently employed. Over the years, Darrell was a jack of all trades working at The Pas RCMP Detachment, grocery store, cab driver and electrician. In his spare time, Darrell was an avid fisherman and wannabe hunter and would often be seen watching the hunting channel or heading to the nearest lake with his best buddies, Chris Head and Justin Lathlin. If he wasn’t off fishing, he would often be seen in his yard working on the many projects he started or chatting it up with his neighbour and coffee buddy, Stanley Head. He always set time aside to visit his daughter and grandchildren in Saskatoon, SK and along the way would stop in on his many relatives in Saskatchewan. Darrell will be greatly missed for his big bright smile, quick, witty come-backs and great big heart. He was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand. Darrell is survived by his wife of 12 years, Debbie Custer (Lathlin); children Robert Lathlin, Jasmine Lathlin and Bradley Lathlin; grandchildren Darian Lathlin-Crane, Aaliyah Frank, Dayson Frank and Tashiena Lathlin-Bear; many brothers and sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends too numerous to mention. Darrell has gone on to be with his father, Donald Lindsay; mother Margaret Custer; grandparents Andrew and Helen Custer, Walter Lindsay and Katherine (nee Vogt) Lindsay; and many other extended family members are too numerous to mention.
