Delora Libbrecht Obituary

Del was born Saturday, May 16, 1925 in Bruno, Saskatchewan to John and Kay Hamm. Del attended St. Ursula’s Academy in Bruno. In 1945 she moved to The Pas with her parents. In 1946 Del attended beauty school in Winnipeg and then opened a beauty salon in her parent’s home. Del and Eloi were united in marriage September 30, 1949 in The Pas. They moved to Flin Flon where they lived for 18 months, eventually moving back to The Pas where she resided until her passing. Del worked in the children’s department at The Bay store in The Pas from 1973 to 1984 and also had a catering business for a few years with her friend, Kay Murphy. She was an active member of the CWL for 59 years. Del loved gardening, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint and baking. She made many “Snow Fleas” for Trappers Festival for the CWL. She was a devout Catholic and her faith was an important part of her life. Del passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, August 11, 2012, at St. Anthony’s Hospital, The Pas, Manitoba, at the age of 87 years. Del is survived by her husband of 63 years, Eloi Libbrecht; sons Wayne (Helen) Libbrecht of Winnipeg, MB, Tom Libbrecht of Hanna, AB, Reg Libbrecht of The Pas, MB; daughter Janice Libbrecht of Winnipeg, MB; daughter-in-law Jocelyn Libbrecht of Calgary, AB; grandchildren Tracy (Brad) Morgan of Hanna, AB, Brian (Carrie) Libbrecht of Okotoks, AB, Cheri Hillman (Richard Jarzecki) of Calgary, AB, Jennifer (Gord) McMaster of Lethbridge, AB, Lisa Hillman of Winnipeg, MB, Bobby and Christopher Silman of Winnipeg, MB; great grandchildren Dale, Ryan, Madisen, Ethan, Brooke, Reid; brother Orville (Edwilda) Hamm of Souris, MB; brother-in-law Guy (Merle) Libbrecht of Winnipeg, MB; sister-in-law Marie Ross of The Pas, MB; aunt Clara Fisher of Bruno, SK; sister-in-law Barbara Hamm of Brandon, MB; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. Del was predeceased by her parents John and Kay Hamm; sister Verna Fowler; parents-in-law Leon and Lydia Libbrecht; brothers-in-law Mel Fowler, Eddie (Lil) Libbrecht, Raymond (Bernice) Libbrecht, Hubert (Mary) Libbrecht; sister-in-law Claire (George) Brown; and other family members and close friends. Prayers and visitation were held Thursday, August 16, 2012, 7:00 pm at the Chapel of Hemauer Funeral Home, The Pas. Mass of Christian burial for Del was held Friday, August 17, 2012, 1:00 pm at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cathedral, The Pas, Manitoba with Rev. William Stang, OMI presiding. Music ministry was provided by Rochelle Rydberg. Memories of the heart were shared by Del’s grandchildren Lisa Hillman and Brian and Carrie Libbrecht. Scripture readings were proclaimed by Glenda Streifel and Dorothy Leblanc. Interment followed at Lakeside Cemetery, The Pas, Manitoba. Pallbearers were Dennis Libbrecht, Alan Hamm, Doug Fowler, Gary Joyal, Bob Hayes, Brian Simonite. Honor Guard were The Catholic Women’s League. Honorary pallbearers were all Del’s Family and Friends. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3L 0K6, would be appreciated by Del’s family.
