Eloi Libbrecht

Eloi Marcel Libbrecht passed away Friday, August 8, 2014 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, The Pas, MB, at the age of 87 years. Eloi was born Tuesday, March 1, 1927 in Notre Dame de Lourdes, MB to Lydia and Leon Libbrecht. On Sept. 30, 1949 he married Delora Hamm. They moved to Flin Flon where they lived for 18 months, eventually moving back to The Pas where they both resided until their passing. Eloi was employed with CNR until 1962 when he began working for St. Anthony’s Hospital as head of maintenance for 30 years, retiring in 1992. Over the years, Eloi and Del would spend many evenings enjoying the company of family and friends. Eloi also enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, boating and time spent at the lake. He was honoured several times with the prestigious award of “oldest rider” in the annual snowmobile poker derby. Eloi was predeceased by his wife of 63 years Del Libbrecht; his parents Lydia and Leon Libbrecht; brothers Eddie (Lil) Libbrecht, Raymond (Bernice) Libbrecht, Hubert (Mary) Libbrecht; sister Claire (George) Brown; in-laws John and Kay Hamm; sister-in-law Verna (Mel) Fowler; step-grandson Christopher Silman; and other family members and close friends. Eloi is survived by sons Wayne (Helen) Libbrecht of Winnipeg, MB, Tom Libbrecht (Dawn Kern) of Langdon, AB, Reg Libbrecht of The Pas, MB,; daughter Janice Libbrecht of Winnipeg, MB; grandchildren Tracy (Brad) Morgan of Hanna, AB, Brian (Carrie) Libbrecht of Okotoks, AB, Cheri-Ann (Richard) Jarzecki of Calgary, AB, Jennifer (Gord) McMaster of Lethbridge, AB, Lisa Hillman of Winnipeg, MB, Bobby Silman of Winnipeg, MB; great grandchildren Dale, Ryan, Madisen, Brooke, Reid, Ethan, and Dax; brother Guy (Merle) Libbrecht of Winnipeg, MB; sister Marie Ross; brother-in-law Orville (Edwilda) Hamm of Souris, MB; sister-in-law Barbara Hamm of Brandon, MB; and numerous other relatives, dear neighbors and friends. A Service of Remembrance to celebrate Elio’s life was held Wednesday, August 13, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, The Pas, Manitoba with Rev. Jack Herklotz presiding. Memories of the Heart: Brian Simonite. Following Interment Prayers at Lakeside Cemetery, a time of fellowship and refreshment was held at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3L 0K6, would be appreciated by Eloi’s family. The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Anthony’s Hospital for the wonderful care and compassion given to Eloi during his stay.
