Elsie Skubovius THE PAS, Manitoba Obituary

Elsie Skubovius

Clearwater Lake lost one of it more colourful characters when Elsie quietly passed away at her home with her family at her side on Thursday December 12th, 2013, at the age of 75. Born in The Pas, Elsie did not always live in the area during her adult life, but her heart was never far from her beloved Clearwater Lake. She did not have a lot of formal education, but helped provide for her family from a young age and was still hunting chickens in her seventies. Her use of the English language was unique but always humorous to everyone within earshot. Elsie was well known to generations of families who vacationed at Pioneer Bay and had a treat at Sam’s Snack Bar, started by Elsie’s father in the 1940’s. Elsie was predeceased by her parents Sam and Mary Kowalchuk, brothers Harry and Fred Kowalchuk, sisters Katherine (Bailey), Ann (Plaxton), Irene (Smart). Elsie is survived by her husband of 54 years, Ross, her sister Mary (Gauthier), her daughters Deloris (Jim), Kelly (Gary), Raileen (Shawn), Daun (Byron), and Dena, her grandchildren Ryan, Brad, Craig, Curtis, Tina, Ashleigh, Derrick, Ricki, Brandon, Skylar, Anabella, Tiara and Blayke, her great grandchildren Brady, Oliver, Everlee, Benjamin, Jackson and Bentley; and her life long friend Deloris Chartier. A celebration of Elsie’s storied life will be held at her home at 100 Atikameg Drive, Clearwater Lake on December 27th, 2013 with a private family gathering at 2:00 o’clock followed by an open house at 3:00 o’clock. Dress will be casual with ball caps and cutoff T-shirts most welcome! Thank you to all the caring staff at St Anthony’s General Hospital who cared for Elsie during her illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Scleroderma Association of Saskatchewan, 465 Willow Bay, Estevan, Saskatchewan, S4A 2G3 or online at www.sclerodermasaskatchewan.ca
