Elva Reinfort Obituary

Elva was born Tuesday, May 12, 1936 at Endeavor, Saskatchewan, the second oldest child of Melvin and Mildred Berg (nee Fitzpatrick). The family moved to Flin Flon, Manitoba for economic reasons when Elva was four years old. Elva and Albert met while working together at Flin Flon General Hospital and after a short romance were married Saturday, September 4, 1954. All three of their children were born in Flin Flon. The “Berg” family soon relocated to The Pas during the construction boom caused by the opening of the forestry industry in 1969. In the early years Elva enjoyed fishing and camping with her family but later turned to the traditional knitting, quilting and baking arts. She loved country music and her deep belief in religion was always obvious. She was a proud and immaculate housekeeper. Elva represented a tower of strength to all she loved and cherished. Her guidance and support were there whenever needed. She was kind hearted, generous, and had a wonderful sense of humour. After the kids “moved on” Elva began working at the Wescana Inn as a kitchen aid/prep cook/dishwasher. This part time job soon turned into a full time vocation which she totally loved. The friendships created during this period were lifelong. After her illness, one of her greatest desires was to return to work. Elva will be lovingly remembered and leaves precious memories with her husband and partner of 56 years, Albert. Peacefully, with family at her side, after a valiant and courageous battle with cancer, Elva Elizabeth Reinfort (nee Berg) beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, The Pas, Manitoba, age 74 years. Elva is survived by her husband, Albert; sons, Erwin (Brenda), Albert Leo (Shirley); daughter, Cindy Helstrom (Wayne); daughter-in-law, Kimberley Reinfort (nee Yaworski); grandchildren, Grant (Shaunarae), Shawn, Lee, Patrick (Ashley), Amy (Ryan), Michelle, Cody, Haley, Marcel, Rachel and Rene; sisters, Martha Gislason and Mildred (Jim) James; brothers, Marvin (Hazel), Harold (Shirley) and Martin (Sadie); sisters-in-law, Lydia Ellison, Natalie Bilec, Lea Shultz, Lydia Reinfort, Lillian Reinfort; brother-in-law, Walter Reinfort; as well as numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, Melvin and Mildred Berg; brothers-in-law, John Gislason, Leo Reinfort, Gordon Ellison, Nick Bilec and Ben Shultz. Prayers and visitation were held Sunday, December 5, 2010, 7:00 pm at the Chapel of Hemauer Funeral Home, The Pas, Manitoba. Mass of Christian Burial for Elva was held Monday, December 6, 2010, 1:00 pm at the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cathedral, The Pas, Manitoba with Rev. Paul Bringleson presiding. Music ministry was provided by Rochelle Rydberg. Pallbearers were Harold Berg Jr., Grant Reinfort, Shawn Reinfort, Leslie Stevenson, Lee Reinfort and Cody Helstrom. In keeping with Elva’s wishes, cremation has taken place and interment will follow at a later date.
