Evelyn Ramstead Obituary

Evelyn Ramstead was born June 19, 1922 on a farm near Amazon, Saskatchewan. She was the first born of 3 children from parents Emma & Stanley Karr. She grew up on the family farm near Archerwill Saskatchewan. Growing up she was close to her grandmother, as she spent quite a bit of time at her grand parents (Petrina and Martin Nelson) in the summer at Rose Valley, Saskatchewan. She attended some school there and helped in the garden with her Uncle Stanley. Evelyn also went to school at Kitako, but most of her schooling was at Echo Park. In the summer she swam in the lake at her farm with the other children in the area and slid down barley straw stacks. In winter they played hockey on the lake (with a bent willow and horse droppings). She used to visit at her aunt Josie’s alot, as she lived close to Kitako, where the school and community hall were. When she was done school, she worked for different people, doing housework, cooking, baking, gardening and working in the field. On June 12, 1943 she was united in marriage to Morrel at Archerwill, Saskatchewan. They had 2 children; Erness and Merlyn before moving to Flin Flon in 1947, there 3 more children were added; Dwayne, Charlyn, and Carolyn. When she lived in Flin Flon one of her greatest joys was playing baseball. She played for the Farmerettes, it was a name she had come up with. She always enjoyed playing with her children as they were growing up. She also enjoyed picking berries and fishing and had a good sense of humour. They moved to Snow Lake in the fall of 1960 when Morrel was transferred as he was emplo-yed with HBM&S. They always grew a fairly big garden, and enjoyed playing cards. After selling her house she got a small apartment and continued to enjoy playing cards, bingo, knitting and embroidery. She still did some knitting in her 88th year, making many dishcloths, which she promptly gave away. She was also willing to show us girls how to embroider or knit or to teach us a new card game. Evelyn moved into the personal care home at the hospital in Snow Lake just before she turned 88 in 2010. She accepted Jesus Christ as her saviour February 22, 2011. On June of 2012, she celebrated her 90th birthday with relatives attending from Chelan Sask, Rocky Mountain House Ab, Saskatoon Sask, and friends from the community. She was predeceased by her husband Morrel (1986), son Dwayne (1978), son Erness (2007), son-in-law Larry Wowryk (2000), as well as Mother Emma (1975), Father Stanley (1978), brother Floyd (2004) and infant brother Morris (1928). Evelyn leaves to mourn her passing, her children; Merlyn (Jack Strelezki), Charlyn Wowryk and Carolyn (Dennis) Hart. Grand children; Wendy (Kevin) Good, Jason (Karry) Strelezki, Lee-Ann (Ken) Highmoor, Deborah (Darren) Wowryk, Cayliegh (Kenton) Onofrychuk, Denis Hart. Great grand children; Kristjan and Margot Good, Meredith Strelezki, Dryden & Delaney Dodds and Jessie Highmoor, and one great-great grandchild; Kolten Good. As per moms wishes, cremation has taken place and no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Snow Lake Health Auxillary (long term patient care). Thank you to everyone who visited mom, she did truly enjoy your visits and the goodies you brought and things you did for her. A most enormous thank you to the hospital staff at the Snow Lake Health Centre. It is wonderful to see a place that really cares for their patients and looks after them so well. It is truly a blessing to be able to go and visit them anytime. Many thanks to everyone for their kind words, cards and gift of food and caring.
