Evelyn Vinet Obituary

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our wife, mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, and friend, Evelyn Elna Vinet, Tuesday, December 17th, 2013, at the age of 56 years. Evelyn passed away peacefully with family and friends by her side at St. Anthony’s Hospital, The Pas, Manitoba. Evelyn was born in Moose Lake, Manitoba, Tuesday, May 7, 1957 to Samaria Reynolds and Emil Flett. Evelyn married Steve Vinet on July 30, 1988 at The Pas, Manitoba. They were blessed with three children: Steve Jr., AJ, and Hillary. Evelyn received her education at Moose Lake School, Guy Hill, and graduated from high school at Brandon. She was a band administrator at the Moose Lake Band Office, she was a foster parent and worked at Cree Nation Tribal Health as the referral clerk; she helped a lot of people from all over. She worked as a co-ordinator with the Brighter Futures program in Moose Lake. Evelyn visited most major cities in Canada and lived in Toronto when she was a young adult. She visited New York City, California, and traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico, with her baby Hillary, where they attended the world’s biggest pow wow. Evelyn’s favourite activities were; camping, playing bingo with friends, travelling, doing beadwork, singing gospel songs, visiting family and friends, meeting new people, attending and participating in pow wows, going to ceremonies, planning parties, dancing (she never turned down a request for a dance), dressing up at Hallowe’en, attending and participating at Tootsie contests (she made a handsome Elvis). Evelyn accomplished a lot in her life, she brought the first pow wow to Moose Lake along with the help of her friend Flora McNabb. She was able to prevent jumbo jets from taking off; once when Shelly Nasikapow was having her baby and another time when her cousin Samaria Wilson was sick. She was able to move mountains to get whatever she set her mind to. She was never afraid to take on new things. Evelyn was diagnosed with liver disease in February 2013 and fought a courageous battle, always optimistic whenever you asked her how she was feeling. The most important thing in Evelyn’s life was her husband Steve, her children, and grandchildren. Evelyn never forgot the importance of family. She was a very loving sister to Annie, Jessie, Jason, Lyle, Joey, Howard, Robinson and Garnet Tobacco. She was a very caring friend; always concerned about how you were doing and making sure that you never felt left out when she was around. Three years ago Evelyn met her biological dad Emile Flett but sadly lost him that same year and regretted not spending enough time with him. She was very happy to meet her new family. They became an important part of her life. Evelyn embraced all religions; her belief was that we worship one God. She had a strong Faith which carried her through the hardest times of her illness. Evelyn leaves to mourn her husband Steve Vinet Sr.; sons Steve Jr. (Trudy), Albert John; daughter Hillary; stepdaughter Heather Scott; grandsons Zachary Andrews, Dominic Vinet, and Liam Ross; granddaughters Aubrey Vinet, Hallie Lambert, Kayla Albert, and Kadence Ross; sisters Annie Tobacco, Jessica Tobacco, Lynnette (Angus) Greenleaf, Marlene (Sam) McKay, Wilma (Joe) Whitecap, Doreen (Brad) Cook, Ernestine Flett, Lanette (Angus) Flett; brothers Jason (Danella) Tobacco, Howard (Tammy) Reynolds, Floyd (Charlene) Flett, and Ernest Sr. (Jessie) Flett; fathers-in-law Peter Vinet, Jim Toews; mother-in-law Nancy Vinet; sisters-in-law Dora Vinet, Barb (Allan), Linda, Heidi, Sherri (Ben), Susan Suzette, Patricia, and Georgina; brothers-in-law Milton Vinet and Jamie Vinet; aunties Reta Nawakayas, Phyllis Flett, Clara Whitecap, Mildred Tobacco; uncles Jim (Karla) Tobacco and Gilbert Flett; cousins Lisa(Tobacco) Constant, Stephanie R Tobacco, Charlotte Knight, Mary Anne (Rod) Bignell, Raymond (Flora Jean) Tobacco, Virginia Grey, Charles (Beryl) Whitecap, Danny (Jocyeline) Whitecap, Connie (Calahan) Head, Cindy (Derrick) Head, Samaria (Ian) McKay, Sarah (Charlie) McKay, Susan (Wesley) McKay, Roseanna (David) Head, Myrtle (William) Sewap, and Henry (Samantha) Whitecap; godchildren Rita McNabb, Leslie Tobacco, Christy Reynolds, Evelyn Queskekapow, Evelyn Nasekapow, and Leland McNabb.
