Florence Needham THE PAS, Manitoba Obituary

Florence Needham

Florence “Flo” Caroline Needham (nee Duncalfe) passed away peacefully with family by her side, Thursday, October 5, 2017, at St. Paul’s Personal Care Home, The Pas, Manitoba, at the age of 94 years. Flo was born Wednesday, June 27, 1923, in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Constance and Bert Duncalfe, the 2nd eldest of eight children and grew up in Winnipegosis, Manitoba. Flo met and married Jack Needham in 1941 and shortly after moved to The Pas, where they began their family. The first of 5 children, Duane born 1943, followed by Terry in 1946, then along came their first daughter Bonnie in 1951, shortly after Jack “Booge” came along in 1955, then surprise in 1961 there came Kim. Flo worked at various jobs throughout the years in The Pas. Flo had a heart of gold, expected little and gave everything. She was always there for anyone at any time, day or night, calmly listening and letting “you” figure it out. She was a lady of few words but when she did speak, she left a lasting impression. She loved poems and her all-time favorite was “Life’s Clock” by Robert H. Smith. Flo was very much family orientated and held Wednesday lunch for all the family for nearly 50 years. She had a few dishes/desserts like no one else. “Almost Famous” for her apple pie, rice pudding and homemade hot mustard (secret recipe) LOL. She was also known for a few of her own quotes that she shared mostly with the children, “Be good or I’ll pin your ears back” and “Eat it, you little bugger, it’s all you’re gonna get.” Flo had a few passions, she was an avid Bingo player back in her day and could play cards like no other “Beaner” player. She loved to watch curling from her rocking chair, be it at 2 pm or 4 am, knitting all the while, until her eye sight gave out. Her greatest passion were her children and grandchildren. She had a special relationship with most all of them, be it far or near. Flo was predeceased by her parents Constance and Bert Duncalfe; husband Jack; daughter Bonnie; grandsons TJ and infant Thomas Wade. She leaves to mourn her children Duane (Cheryl), Terry (Claudelle), Booge, Kim (Reynald); 10 grandchildren Bonnie, Leigha, Barb, Terra, Marla, Brad, Jill, Bradee, Logan and Kelsi; 14 great grandchildren Brett, Chelsi, Britni, Emma, Bryce, Brooke, Carter, Finn, Aiden, Madi, Zoe, Liam, Dane and Quinn; 1 great-great grandchild TBA in April 2018. Flo’s wishes were to be cremated and buried with her husband at Lakeside Cemetery, The Pas, Manitoba.
