Francis Murnick THE PAS, Manitoba Obituary

Francis Murnick

Francis (Frank) Eugene Murnick passed away peacefully at Flin Flon General Hospital, Flin Flon, Manitoba, Wednesday, April 27th, 2011 at 76 years of age. Frank was born Tuesday, September 25th, 1934, in Pana, Illinois. He spent most of his early life in Joliet, Illinois, where he met, and married the love of his life, Jean, in 1967. Together, along with Frank’s brother, George, and Jean’s mother, they moved to Canada in 1972 after they found out that their favourite fishing lodge, Tonapah Lodge, in Cranberry Portage, MB, was for sale and jumped at the chance to buy it. A few years after they moved, they added to their family, by adopting siblings, Susan and Richard. Frank never shied away from working hard, and for many years, Tonapah Lodge was a successful hunting and fishing lodge because of the long hours, and dedication that the family put into running it. Frank especially loved duck hunting and fishing, whenever time would allow. Frank also delighted in playing the organ, where Jean would often join him and sing along. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing on his computer (especially his submarine game “Silent Hunter”), fixing motors, and reading hunting & fishing magazines. Despite many health challenges, and his declining health over the past few years, he was able to stay at home until only 3 days before his passing, with Jean by his side. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jean; daughter, Sue (Sheldon Vincent) of Saskatoon and their children, Karel “Orion” Gerrese, Sairagh Vincent and Jenna Vincent; son, Rick (Saara Harvie) of Cranberry Portage and their children Alex Harvie and Jacob Harvie; sisters, Ann Pavletich and Barbara Heck of Joliet, Illinois; also, numerous nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by his parents, Michael Murnick Sr. and Susan (née Thomas); siblings, George, Michael Jr., Mary Rohr, Susan Cellenti, Betty Zing, Catherine Lasko and Mildred Moholik. Prayers and visitation was held Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at the Canadian Martyrs Catholic Church, Cranberry Portage, Manitoba. The funeral service for Frank was held Thursday, May 5, 2011 at the Frontier Collegiate Auditorium, Cranberry Portage, Manitoba with Rev. Paul Bringleson presiding. Music Ministry provided by Pat Petryk. Scripture readings were proclaimed by June and Murray Haybittle. Eulogy was delivered by Gerard Jennissen. Interment followed at the Cranberry Portage Community Cemetery, Cranberry Portage, Manitoba. Pallbearers were Norman Brightnose, Jeff Brightnose, René Grenier, Alfred Brightnose, Richard Danielson, Dale Brightnose. Honorary Pallbearers were Robert Brightnose , Jerry Cook , Roger Carrier , George Brightnose, Tanis and John Como, Ken Danielson, Rick Petryk, Bruce Heck, Robert Murnick, Mickey Murnick, Carl Zing.
