Fred Heidman Obituary

Fred was born Thursday, June 6, 1935 in Buffalo, New York to August and Mildred Heidman. Fred spent his childhood in Toronto, Ontario. Fred was united in marriage to Anita Claudette Lamirande, January 23, 1960 in Kenora, Ontario and enjoyed 51 and a half years of marriage. Fred worked with Brewers Retail as a manager, in Red Lake, Ontario, from 1960-1968. While in Red Lake, Fred spent his spare time prospecting his own mining claims. In 1972, Fred came to The Pas as the mining claims inspector and in 1979 he was promoted to the position of mining recorder for The Pas district, a position he held until his retirement in September of 2000 at the age of 65. Fred loved all outdoor activities including fishing with his children and grandchildren, moose hunting with son Warren and later deer hunting with son Steven. He had a remarkable talent for calling in moose while son Warren did the shooting. After moving to Winnipeg in 2001, he now spent the time choosing the ideal fields for his son Steven, while deer hunting. Fred built two cabins, a log building at Red Lake, Ontario and the “Rocky Lake Hilton” at Rocky Lake, Manitoba. In his later years he became an avid gun collector and spent hours cleaning them, reading about them, and going to gun shows. He loved spending quality time with his grandchildren at their cabin at Rocky Lake. He loved to enjoy the fruits of his labour and reflect on all the hard work he put into his cabin. Fred was known for his non stop joke and story telling. Fred passed away Thursday, July 14, 2011 at his residence at Rocky Lake, Manitoba, age 76 years.
