Freda Argue Obituary

Freda Argue, 91, formerly of The Pas, passed away peacefully in the company of family at the Donwood Manor in Winnipeg, Thursday, May 12, 2011. Freda was born on Wednesday, August 6, 1919 in Winnipeg to Jack and Louise Horn. She was the youngest of 7 children and was raised on College Avenue. Educated locally, Freda went to work at Swift Packing Company for many years. She wed Rex Argue on May 17, 1963 at Zion Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in Gillam, Manitoba where Rex was employed by the Canadian National Railroad. They relocated to The Pas in 1964 and Freda became active at the local Elks branch serving as a long-time member of the Royal Purple. She was quite the baker and contributed many, cakes, pies and cookies for numerous events and fundraisers. She also had a love and skill for crocheting and her handiwork (mostly doilies) is visible in the homes of many family members & friends. She was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Ladies Auxiliary. Freda and her family appreciated the kind and compassionate care she received during her stay at Donwood Manor. Freda was predeceased by Rex, her parents and her siblings: Peter Horn, Jack Horn, Henry Horn, Mary (Horn) Gilmour, Louise (Horn) Smith, and Emilie (Horn) Morris. She is survived by 8 nieces, and 2 nephews, along with numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews in Canada and the States. In accordance with Freda's wishes, her ashes will be interred with Rex at the The Pas Cemetery. Friends attended a reception in Freda’s memory on June 25, 2011at 3:00 pm at the Legion in The Pas.
