Freda Hiebert Obituary

Wife, Mother, Sister, Aunt, Grandmother, Great grandmother, and friend are some of the titles that we are given throughout our lives, but Freda was more than just one of these titles, she was special. Freda was an important part of each of our lives and created special memories with everyone, memories that will be cherished. She taught us all important lessons throughout our lives, lessons that as we pass on to others will make her live on forever. To put into words someone’s entirety, someone’s legacy, someone’s life is one of the most difficult things to do. When you love someone with pureness, where there are no flaws in that love, you feel a part of you has left with that person. To you, Freda may have been a sister who you grew up with and made memories for those 78 special years. She may have been a mother who was there for you throughout your life, who nourished you, guided you, and even scolded you on occasion. She may have been a wife who loved you, stood by your side for over 50 years, who was there for you in sickness and in health. She may have been an aunt, who you looked to for advice, who was there to make fun memories with. She may have been a friend. A person you had fun with, a shoulder to cry on, and a good partner in a game of cards. She may have been a great grandmother, a person that cuddled you, kissed you and played with you until the moment you closed your little eyes. To me Freda was a grandma, she was a teacher of many talents, she was a storyteller, she was there for me when I was sad, sick, and happy. She guided me through times of hardship and times of happiness; she was an important part of who I am and who I will always be. My grandma was everything to many of us and we should never forget the lessons she taught us in life, as we pass those lessons onto others we help her live on forever. As my grandmother is now here only in our memories and in our hearts, let us keep her there forever because “those we love remain with us for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade because a loved one’s gone. Those we love can never be more than a thought apart. For as long as there is a memory, they’ll live in our hearts”. Written by granddaughter Brooke Van Nes Peacefully after a battle with cancer, with her children by her side, mom passed away, Monday, June 24, 2013, at St. Anthony’s General Hospital, The Pas, at the age of 78 years.
