George Fuller THE PAS, Manitoba Obituary

George Fuller

On Saturday, November 6, 2010 George Alton Fuller age 79 years, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, passed away at his residence, Pineview Manor, The Pas, Manitoba. George was born Friday, October 23,1931 in Summerville, Nova Scotia to Edna & Ralph Fuller. The family moved to Hansport, Nova Scotia in 1936 where they grew up and attended school. Dad moved to Hamilton, Ontario to live with his oldest brother Ed when he was in his early twenties. While there he enlisted in the World Canadian Artillery, taking his training in Pickton, Ontario. Later on he was stationed in Shilo, Manitoba where he met Shirley Frances Walker. They were united in marriage May 30,1963 in Brandon, Manitoba. Over the years George was stationed in Arizona, USA and finally Winnipeg, Manitoba where he joined the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery. George retired from the military in 1970, soon after moving to The Pas, Manitoba in 1973 where he was employed at Manfor then Repap Sawmill for 25 years before retiring in 1998. Together they raised two children Ralph Alexander Fuller (Winnipeg), and Shelley Lynn Fuller (The Pas). George loved the outdoors. In his earlier years George enjoyed hunting and fishing. He would invite family and friends from all over to come up north fishing and hunting. In his later years it was his grandchildren he cherished most. He would listen to them and talk with them, he loved hearing what they were up to and try to help them with problems that may arise. He was very proud of them. His newest granddaughter Brea Lyn was always visiting him, asking him “what’s this?” and “what’s that?” He got a real kick out of her. His apartment told many stories with all the pictures that cover his walls of family and friends. Listening to music was a favorite past-time of George’s. Playing, singing and recording his favorites such as blue grass, fiddling and country was his hobby. He liked tinkering in models as well. He was fascinated with aircrafts, ships and boats. George always talked about back home - Nova Scotia. He talked about the east coast with such pride. He hadn't been back since he buried his mother in 1977. Thirty years had passed since he returned home although he talked about going back all the time. In 2007 George and his daughter Shelley, grandsons Brody and Brandon made the trip they talked about for years. They spent two remarkable weeks reuniting with family and friends, reminiscing about past times. It was the vacation of a lifetime! Living with COPD took it's toll on George. He wasn't able to get out as much as he would have liked to. Winters were harder on him. When he was feeling good he enjoyed his coffee outings with his good friend Jim Snowdon, visiting and talking with people they would run into along the way. They always had a story for whoever happened upon them. George had a great sense of humor even through ill health. The homecare girls or meals on wheels workers would always sit and enjoy his company- he always had a joke to tell. He will be remembered for his generous, selfless, easy going personality. Everyone was always welcome into his home. George is survived by his loving children Ralph and Shelley; grandchildren, Barrett, Brody, Brandon, Brea, Haley and Tyler; great-grandson Brody; brothers Mike (Pat) of Windsor, NS , Malcolm (Rosalie) of Canning, NS; brothers-in-law Don (Trudy) Walker of Edmonton, AB, Gary( Gerry) Walker of Brandon, MB; and numerous special nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his wife Shirley Fuller; father Cpt. Ralph Fuller; mother Edna Fuller; brother Ed Fuller; infant grandson Braden Fuller. Prayers and visitation was held Tuesday, November 9, 2010, 7:00 pm at the Chapel of Hemauer Funeral Home, The Pas.
