George Long

George Stanley Long was born Thursday, May 31st, 1934 to Florence and Stanley Long and passed away Wednesday, September 29th, 2010 at The Pas, Manitoba after a courageous battle with cancer, age 76 years. George spent his early years on the family farm near Usherville, Saskatchewan starting school there, then moving to Thunder Bay, Ontario with the family at ten years of age. The family returned west to Lady Lake, Saskatchewan in 1948 where George attended Sunny Brae School. In the 1950’s and 60’s George was employed with Dale’s Construction. In 1972 he settled in The Pas, Manitoba and worked for Spruce Products until his retirement in 1999 and made his home at the North View Lodge. George was predeceased by his parents Stanley and Florence Long; sister and brother-in-law Christine and Hartley Fiala; brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Evelyn Long. George is survived by daughter Cheryl (Paul) Viala and their children; sister Bernice (Alvin) Ziolkoski, and numerous nieces and nephews. In keeping with George’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a service of remembrance to celebrate George’s life will be held Saturday, October 23, 2010, 2:00 pm at the Preeceville Funeral Home, 233-2nd Avenue N.E., Preeceville, Saskatchewan. A special thanks to Dr. Pinder and nursing staff at St. Anthony’s Hospital in The Pas, Manitoba for their excellent care. Friends so wishing, may make memorial donations to Cancer Care Manitoba, ON109 – 675 McDermont Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3E 0V9, on behalf of George.
