Gordon Lemkay Obituary

Gordon was born Sunday, February 12, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A.. He came to Winnipeg, Manitoba with his family when he was 18 months old. As a young lad, Gordon moved to Winnipegosis for several years, moving to Transcona and then back to Winnipegosis where he completed his education. Throughout his life he worked as a mechanic in the mining and construction industries. Gordon and Doreen were united in marriage November 8, 1958 at Virden, Manitoba. They lived in Wanless for many years where Gordon worked for Natural Resources at Prospector until his retirement. Gordon enjoyed the wilderness where he loved gardening and reading. Gordon passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at his residence in Wanless, Manitoba, age 82 years. Gordon is survived by his wife Doreen; sisters Rita Geekie, Calgary, Alberta, Gladys (Albert) Hildebrand, Niverville, Manitoba, Doris (Sheldon) Irvine, Blairmore, Alberta; brother-in-law Lorne Willis; sister-in-law Lyla Willis; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Gordon was predeceased by his parents, George and Anne Lemkay; brothers Harold and Irwin; father-in-law Jack Willis and mother-in-law Evelyn Willis. In keeping with family wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal funeral service will be held. If friends so desire, donations to The Pas and Area Humane Society, Box 4005, The Pas, Manitoba, R9A 1S5, would be appreciated by Gordon’s family.
