Gwladys Carley

On Monday afternoon, September 8, 2014, our mother Gwladys, passed away surrounded by family and staff of St. Paul’s Home, Dauphin, Manitoba, at the age of 107 years. Gwladys was born Tuesday, August 20, 1907 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. During her childhood she lived in various communities in Saskatchewan. While teaching in rural Saskatchewan schools, Gwladys met Charles Carley and they were married July 12, 1934. They moved from Saskatchewan to the Swan River Valley, eventually moving to The Pas. The last eighteen years Gwaldys lived in Dauphin. Gwladys was young at heart and kept up with the times and this showed in her daily conversations where she discussed many topics. Her interest included needlework, photography, travel and picnics, as well as listening to music, playing the piano and reading. Gwladys was always deeply interested in her immediate and extended family. She was always excited to have visitors and very sad to see anyone leave. Her friendships were very important to her and she enjoyed many good times with friends throughout her life. Her memory was one of her great attributes along with her wit. She also played a mean game of cribbage and was always up for a game, even at 11:00 pm.
